The ‘Fleabag’ star Andrew Scott wanted people to throw away the term “openly gay.”
While Scott has remained unapologetic about his sexuality since his coming out in 2013 in an interview with The Independent, he believes the way gay actors are labeled in mainstream media should be changed.
In a recent episode of ‘Off Script With The Hollywood Reporter’, the “hot priest” said that he suggested getting rid of the term “openly gay.”
“Here me out, it’s an expression that we actually only ever hear in the media. You’re never at a party, and you say, ‘This is my openly gay friend,’” he told Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti, Robert Downey Jr, Mark Ruffalo, and Jeffrey Wright. “Why do we put openly in front of that adjective? You know we don’t say you’re “openly Irish,” you don’t say you’re “openly left-handed.”
