Unveil A Best Friend’s Secret in ‘Fragment’!

“I’m happy as long as you’re happy” has been Fon’s mantra for her best friend, but with the arrival of a guy in the picture, can she stand by this until the end?

Fresh among the new releases, “Fragment” is an 8-minute Thai lesbian film that premiered in 2018. This adorable and heartwarming picture is directed by Bankii Niwat and stars Milk Salocha and Yuwadee Sangkhachot. Read on to find out what happens!

It all starts with Fon reading a book in a restaurant with her best friend watching over her. Her best friend playfully takes the book from her and lifts it over their heads. Fon tries to retrieve the book by inching closer when her best friend suddenly hugs her and tells her she is thankful to have Fon, who has never left her. Surprised by the sudden affection, Fon jokes that the reason she can’t leave her is because she has no other friends, and vice versa. The best friend complains but still coos over Fon. Their banter is interrupted by a phone call from the best friend’s boyfriend, Q, asking the former to go out for dinner. Fon lets her best friend go after being teased not to sulk.

After being left, Fon muses about her feelings toward her best friend. She feels hurt when her best friend gets along with her boyfriend the same way she feels hurt when her best friend is sad, but she still can’t help comforting her.

Fon and her best friend were supposed to review together in a restaurant when her best friend told her that Q was coming to join them. Surprised, Fon asks why Q will be joining them, to which the best friend replies, “Why can’t he?” Her best friend sees Q on the other side of the road and is about to come over; she introduces the two to each other. The best friend immediately feels that Fon is quite cold to Q; she tries to lighten up the mood by asking Fon about their exam, and Q tries to review her as well. As the pair converses, Fon excuses herself and tells them she has somewhere else to go. As she leaves, she realizes that it still stings to see her best friend with someone else and that it’s not true when people say they are happy as long as their loved ones are happy; they still hurt, and they just pretend to be fine.

Two hours later, Fon comes back to the cafe and asks her best friend why she asked her to return; the latter answers that Q told her to cut off ties with Fon, making her mad as she treasures their friendship. Q tells her best friend that Fon is interested in her in a romantic way and even asks her to choose between the two of them. Realizing that this might be the chance she is waiting for, Fon confirms that what Q said is true and that she has been hiding it for a long time already. The best friend is speechless; Fon takes the chance and kisses her. After the shock wears off, her best friend walks away and leaves Fon behind. Fon realizes that, while her feelings are unrequited, she feels relieved for being able to finally unveil her secret. She lies her head on the table with her eyes closed when she feels someone lean on her and whispers, “Can we start a relationship?”, her best friend asks.

Despite being a short film, Fragment was able to demonstrate how taking a chance can have a profound impact on one’s life. To leap in the hopes that the outcome will be beneficial, all that one needs to be courageous.
