Thai Actor Pond Naravit Responds to Accusations of Problematic Issues

Another GMMTV actor is receiving intense scrutiny over the problematic comments he made in the past.

Having starred in lead roles in two Thai Boys’ Love series, Pond Naravit Letratkosum being accused of being homophobic came as a shock to many fans. This began when Twitter user @bluesherbet_ uploaded a tweet asking which actors from the BL series were not problematic, as many controversies involving artists under the company GMMTV have been coming out recently. Twitter user @ailluminer responded by saying that they were friends with Pond and could vouch for his moral character. Twitter user @leekd3562 then responded saying that if they were going to talk about good things regarding Pond, they should also talk about his bad side, then proceeded to say that Pond used to mock members of the LGBT community and say that he hated gay people.

While some fans took to the quote retweets of the tweet where the allegations were made to express their disappointment, other fans seemed to find the allegations ridiculous as Pond has been very vocal about his support for the LGBT community. For example, one Twitter user replied with a screenshot compiling multiple times Pond has used his platform to amplify LGBT-related advocacies while others stated that given that this happened 10 years ago, meaning Pond was 12 years of age, he should not have been subject to all of the angry comments he had received because of the tweet.

Pond has since addressed the allegations in a tweet, which was translated in the reply section by @RRinda6. In the tweet, Pond explained that he regrets the statements he made in the past and would like to sincerely apologize. Now that he is older, the actor explained, he understands the gravity of his words and promised that this will not happen again. The full statement can be found below.

Also, in the aforementioned tweet, Pond said that he had reached out to people who he felt he had affected in the past with his statements. It seems that he was true to his words as Twitter user @mdnmde tweeted that they had received a personal apology from Pond for his past actions and that they had chosen to forgive him and accept his apology.
