‘Only Friends’ is a mature TV series that revolves around a group of friends who are involved in their own respective toxic relationships (i.e., friends with benefits, one-sided love, etc.) This daring GMMTV series will be starring actors Book Kasidet, Force Jiratchapong, Khaotung Thanawat, First Kanaphan, Neo Trai, and Mark Pakin as Mew, Top, Ray, Saen, Boston, and Nick.

Check out its Pilot Trailer which reached a million views on YouTube:

SYNOPSIS: Mew, Ray, and Boston—a group of business students running a hostel together—blur the lines between friendship and romance. Mew has been focusing on his studies, setting aside no time for sex and relationships. Upon learning of his friend’s innocence, Boston introduces Mew to Top. What Boston intended to be a one-night affair turns into something more and he isn’t happy with the turn of events. Economics student Saen wants an exclusive relationship with Ray, but Ray has feelings for Mew and is not interested in settling. “It guy” Nick finds a sex tape in Boston’s phone and ends up in a friends-with-benefits relationship with him. However, Nick wants something more.

In a viral clip on Twitter from the pilot trailer, a netizen questioned: “Why does Thai BL have an obsequious with a sex consent?” which garnered different opinions about it.

In Jojo Tichakorn’s defense, he quote-retweeted: “I understand how BL community focuses on explicit scenes. But we’d like to say thought since it’s a video from our series… The core of all of our work is a toxic relationship, in which sex is a part that affects friendship, family, and society. And let’s just say ‘Only Friends’ is more than sex.”

Jojo Tichakorn is an openly gay TV director and screenwriter. He has worked in the following series: ‘Friend Zone’, ‘3 Will be free’, ‘Gay OK Bangkok’, ‘The Player’, and many more. Tichakorn aims to expand queer representation in TV media by writing and directing, ‘Gay OK Bangkok’, a series centered on the relationship and friendship drama between six gay men in Bangkok while delivering key gay-oriented health messages and keeping up engaging storylines.

‘Only Friends’ is planned to be released sometime this year.
