Is this ongoing kidnapping case worth keeping up with? Here’s our initial review to help you decide whether Ohm Pawat and Leng Thanapon’s new BL series, ‘Kidnap‘ is right for you!
First things first, GMMTV deserves credit for going in quite a unique direction with this series. As much as we all love their series set in a school where two boys have a chance encounter that starts their romance, this change of pace is very welcome. ‘Kidnap’ tells the story of Min, who gave into desperation and took on a job to kidnap Q. Unable to pull the trigger when he was ordered to, Min instead took him home and faked his death, leading to the two of them slowly warming up to each other. Quite the premise, right?
The show also seems to be characterizing its cast with extra care. Q easily could have come off as just another rich brat who got spoiled by his parents, and maybe he is, but there really is more to him. He’s quite sweet even to strangers, giving out flowers to them for free while intoxicated in episode 1. He also has a complicated relationship with his father, who seems to value his job more than spending time with his son. There’s also Min, who’s a good person at heart, but was forced to do bad things for money, not for himself, but to be able to afford his brother’s medical bills. These characters are multi-layered and quite well-written so far, making them quite compelling.
