Episode 9

Dae Byeol, Uno, and Jun Hyuk manage to get inside the nearby dog farm and confront the evil owner, who is still sour about getting his permit closed. Dae Byeol also threatens that he will report the dog farm owner once again to the police if they don’t release the dogs on the farm. Seong Ju followed them secretly, unknown to them, and is now observing from the side. The dog farm owner tells them that he will beat them up and feed them to the dogs before picking up wood to hit them. However, Uno gets in between them and begins what Jun Hyuk recognizes as ‘Wai Kru’, a traditional Muay Thai ritual before a match. Uno signals the dog farm owner to come at him, and the latter attacks aggressively, while his partner lunges at Jun Hyuk, who drops the camera on the ground. Dae Byeol also retaliates, but the opponents wield a baseball bat as a weapon. As Dae Byeol covers the beaten-up Jun Hyuk on the ground, the dog farm owner takes the chance to hit them with hardwood. Uno stops the attack by shoving himself in between, and in return, the dog farm owner ends up hitting his arm. Just as the dog farm owner is about to hit the three with the baseball hat, Seong Ju shouts from the side, and they also hear the sirens from the police car coming by.

Back at the dog cafe, Jun Hyuk is applying first aid to Uno’s injured arm when Eun Young comes in and scolds them for what happened. Similar to the first incident, Eun Young is primarily focused on creating content for the show. She only ceases her lecture when Jun Hyuk informs her that he was able to document their fight for the dogs in the dog farm, as well as Uno’s heroic act of protecting them. Dae Byeol apologizes, only to receive a scolding, which prompts Uno to assert his accountability. Eun Young reminds him to act like the professional that he is, and he takes Jun Hyuk’s camera. Despite Seong Ju’s decision to call the police, CEO Pyo remains convinced that Uno sustained an injury under his supervision, leading to his punishment. Meanwhile, Dae Byeol praises Uno for being cool, and the two watch the episode together. On the other hand, Gi Min watches sourly and leaves the dog cafe after making a bitter comment about how cool the two were in the video. Conversely, upon discovering Uno’s injury, his father feels compelled to disclose their relationship once more, but Pi persuades him to wait until Uno completes the short film before making a public reveal.

The next day, the mission falls in Uno’s favor, and assigns Dae Byeol to be his slave for the day. Uno becomes delighted, although he puts on a blank face before he starts to abuse his privilege for the day. He makes Dae Byeol spoon-feed him and also makes the latter’s activities for the day difficult. Simultaneously, the journalist Pi hired to write an article intercepts Gi Min just as he is about to leave work. The journalist offers to help Gi Min become an actor in exchange for helping him get an exclusive scoop about Uno that will be worth the headline. Meanwhile, Eun Young meets CEO Pyo privately and tells him that the show’s rating is so good that they want to do another season with Uno; however, the latter hesitates and insists on talking with Uno first. Eun Young says decisively that she will continue with or without Uno’s permission in exchange for keeping her mouth shut about the scandal she mentioned before. Uno notices that Daekgu looks unwell and refuses to eat; hence, the two bring it to the animal clinic for a checkup with Jun Hyuk. Dae Byeol tells Uno that Daekgu appears to be sick, but he assures the former that Jun Hyuk will take care of everything. Later that evening, Uno overhears Dae Byeol and Jun Hyuk discussing performing euthanasia on Daekgu. Uno leaves without hearing the entire conversation and doesn’t hear Jun Hyuk surmise that Daekgu’s owners likely abandoned him due to the heartworms he discovered on him. Dae Byeol, who knows that Uno once saved Daekgu, asks if they can prolong the euthanasia at least until the show is over, but Jun Hyuk answers that it will be too cruel for Daekgu.

Episode 10

The next day, Uno acts coldly towards everyone in the dog cafe, especially Dae Byeol, although the latter assumes it’s because of the injury. Uno visits Daeku on his playpen but ignores Dae Byeol, who follows him. When Dae Byeol asks him the reason behind his cold demeanor during breakfast, Uno asks back instead who he trusts more between humans and animals. Dae Byeol answers the animal, but Uno now believes otherwise. Meanwhile, Eun Young observes the CCTV footage and instructs her assistant to monitor the two individuals, recognizing their sudden tension.

That evening, after the clock hits nine, Eun Young comes inside the dog cafe and calls out Uno for being quiet the whole day. To their surprise, Uno asks to ride a bike the next day. Eun Young agrees and suggests that Uno bring along Daekgu, using a sidecar to create a good image for him. On the side, Dae Byeol observes Uno intently. Dae Byeol and Jun Hyuk discreetly go to Daekgu’s playpen to euthanize it in the middle of the night, believing that the cameras have now turned off. Eun Young is watching them again from the CCTV, without their knowledge. Just as Jun Hyuk is about to inject Daekgu, Uno arrives and stops them. Dae Byeol attempts to clarify Daekgu’s condition, but his anger has already clouded his understanding and led him to question his morality. Uno ends up hitting Dae Byeol, who is about to explain that Daekgu is sick. Meanwhile, Eun Young is happy with what she saw and plans to include it in the show. Uno goes back to his quarters and packs up his belongings until Dae Byeol arrives and tells him about the heartworms that Jun Hyuk found on Daekgu. The disease has already spread all over Daekgu, and even breathing is now hard for him; hence, euthanasia is the only option. Uno questions Dae Byeol for not telling him, but to his surprise, the latter answers that since he knows how much heartbreak Gold’s dementia brought to him, he didn’t want to reopen the wounds by telling him that the second dog he loves is also about to die. Uno finally realizes that Dae Byeol is just as hurt as him. The following day, Uno attempts a normal conversation with Dae Byeol but receives a cold response. Jun Hyuk reminds him of what happened between them the night before, and Uno realizes that he needs to apologize. Meanwhile, the journalist takes discreet photos of Uno and promises Pi that he will soon have a scoop on the intel he planted on the dog cafe. That afternoon, Uno brings Dae Byeol to his quarters in hopes of apologizing to him, but the latter walks out. He pulls Dae Byeol into a hug and acknowledges his mistakes without letting him go. He apologizes and checks on the bruise he inflicted on Dae Byeol’s face, and he even offers to let him hit his face to get. He closes his eyes and waits for a punch, but Dae Byeol tells him to forget it, as he cannot bring himself to hit such a perfect face. Dae Byeol tells Uno that while he hides behind a cold exterior, he knows that he is a warm person deep inside, which he sees through his heart and honest eyes.

Finally, Uno sets out on a bike ride with Daekgu to create their first memories together, while Dae Byeol cheers him on. Eun Young, on the other side, reminds Uno to record everything with his camera. Uno roams around the village and plays around Daekgu until they reach a nearby lake, where he decides to rest in the meantime. While he knows that a dog will probably not understand a human conversation, he tells Daekgu about Gold being his only friend after his mother passes away. Uno was heartbroken when Gold got mad at him and seemed to forget their memories together, resulting in him being afraid of dogs and other animals since then. However, his meeting with Daekgu healed his fears and made him very grateful for it.

Writer’s Thoughts:

As the first installment of Hanyang’s studio’s cross-country shows draws to a close, we also grow increasingly invested in Dae Byeol and Uno. Uno’s character development has touched us, despite our desire for him to be punished for punching our beloved Dae Byeol. However, we understand that everyone has the opportunity to make amends. Meanwhile, Eun Young and her strategies to ensure that the show will generate high ratings are starting to get in the way of everyone, and we can’t help but wonder how far she will take it. Finally, the star of this week’s episode, as well as the very reason for Uno and Dae Byeol’s connection, is about to say goodbye. Will a miracle save Daekgu, or will it inflict another heartbreak wound on Uno that has already healed? Don’t forget to stay tuned for the finale episodes of ‘Love is Like a Cat’ that will drop on Monday to find out how everything will unfold and conclude.
