Episode 3 Good Feelings

Sang Won, who is waiting for the two to arrive, offers to bring Myung Ha home and insists on it until Yeo Woon interrupts and tells him that Myung Ha promised to stay the night. He questions if the two are dating and bitterly snides on their closeness when they are not even dating. Before leaving, he tells Yeo Woon to do well in the race he stole from Jun Kyung.

While they eat a meal that Myung Ha proudly prepared, he teases Yeo Woon for making him stay over, although the latter insists that he only did that because he sees that Sang Won is pestering him. After their dinner, the two comfortably talk about their friends and family situation, both experiencing their parents splitting up and being raised by their grandmothers. Yeon Woo shares that he has always wanted to make friends in school but realizes that his interests and worries, such as his grandmother’s health or their rent, might bore other teenagers his age. This prompted him to see track and field as the only way to run freely. He is surprised when Myung Ha suddenly hugs him tightly. Before going to sleep, Yeo Woo asks if Myung Ha still misses his mother; the latter slips and says that even if he is already twenty-nine years old, he still misses her, although Yeo Woon seems not to notice.

Meanwhile, Kyung Hun’s sister, Si-A, notices that Sang Won didn’t use his motorcycle and asks him why. To her surprise, Sang Won answers amusedly that someone called him out for not having a license and remembers Myung Ha. Sang Won also learns that he will be replaced by Yeo Woon as his mother’s model for her sports brand. The next day, he runs into Myung Ha on the bus and tries to make small talk with him. When he notices that Myung Ha seems to only respond to him when he talks about Yeo Woon, he makes a snarky remark that he is in a more pitiful situation than him and wonders why everyone seems to like him. At the same time, Yeo Woon rides the bus and notices Myung Ha sitting beside Sang Won. Myung Ha tells Sang Won angrily that he doesn’t know what Yeo Woon has gone through; hence, he has no right to belittle him, silencing him effectively. Myung Ha sees Yeo Woon as he is about to get off the bus and tries to follow him, but the latter barely acknowledges him and stays away. He notices that Yeo Woon’s fondness remains at zero, despite his initial assumption that they are now in a better situation. Later that afternoon, Myung Ha meets up with Kyung Hun and Si-A in a cafe to discuss his part-time job. To his surprise, he learns that Si-A is a big fan of Yeo Woon and wishes to meet him. He is also surprised that Si-A assumes he is in a close relationship with Sang Won, although he doesn’t make a big deal out of it. The following day, Myung Ha watches Yeo Woon train again and is joined by Sang Won, who keeps on blabbering beside him, making snarky comments about Yeo Woon to his annoyance. Sang Won notices that Myung Ha only calls him by his name when he makes him mad and decides that he wants to hear him say his name more. He goes as far as mentioning that Yeo Woon’s current performance will not make him qualify for the upcoming race, which he firmly believes that Yeo Woon stole from Jun Kyung. Meanwhile, Myung Ha did not notice that Yeo Woon was observing them from the other side. Myung Ha immediately calls Yeo Woon upon seeing him come out of training. Yeo Woon, however, notices that he is still with Sang Won and continues with his cold demeanor. He also reminds Myung Ha that he told him before not to watch him train again, although the latter insists that he is still sick. Yeo Woon ends up leaving upon realizing that he doesn’t know how to express what he feels. He did not reply to Myung Ha’s text messages throughout the day as well. Upon Si-A’s advice to try and ask the people around Yeo Woon what he might like, Myung Ha finds Jun Kyung, who tells him fearfully that Yeo Woon’s shoes are already worn out. Si-A agrees to come with Myung Ha and buy him a pair sometime. On his way home and happy with how much he made from his part-time job, Myung Ha receives a call from Yeo Woon, who thinks he had an emergency after he sent that message just to catch his attention. Yeo Woon tells him that he is waiting for him at the bus station near his home, and unlike Myung Ha, he is not lying. Myung Ha excitedly greets Yeo Woon, who hands him a bag of ice cream before leaning in and smelling the woman’s perfume that Si-A accidentally sprayed on him. At the same time, he also gets a voice message from her that Yeo Woon also heard to meet her on their agreed-upon day. Upon reaching home, he realizes that the ice cream is quite melted already and realizes that Yeo Woon must have waited too long.

Si-A goes with Myung Ha to buy brand new shoes for Yeo Woon and excitedly brings them to him. Meanwhile, Yeo Woons appears to be sulking and avoiding him once again. When Yeo Woon coldly asks why he bought him shoes, Myung Ha innocently answers that he seems to need them. To Myung Ha’s shock, Yeo Woon appears to be disappointed with him, and his fondness level immediately goes back to negative and hits its lowest, a ninety-nine. On the other hand, Sang Won waits for his mother, who just came out of school and assumed she talked with Yeo Woon for the modeling job. His mother dismisses him and orders him to do better in school. When Sang Won reaches their classroom, he notices the brand new shoes, which happen to be their brand, on Yeo Woon’s table and mocks him for having expensive shoes when he is a beggar. The two almost fight physically until Myung Ha arrives and drags Sang Won with him. Yeo Woon asks Myung Ha where he is going, but the latter simply answers that he is the one who asked him to stay away. On the day of the race, Yeo Woon stands idly in his lane and almost misses the mark when he hears someone calling his name continuously. He then sees Yeo Woon near the finish line, calling his name repeatedly.

Episode 4: Progress

Myung Ha arrives just as a fight is about to break out between Yeo Woon and Sang Won. He notices the dark aura lingering on Yeo Woon’s arm and grabs him. He instantly sees the dark aura get inside him again and shows a message box that the debuff has been reversed. As soon as he leaves the room, dragging Sang Won with him, Myung Ha begins to feel weak and falls off the stairs as he loses consciousness. On the day of Yeo Woon’s race, Myung Ha and Kyung Hun ditched class to watch him, although the former’s leg is still injured from the fall. On their way, they bump into Sang Won, who ends up following them after he finds out that the shoes that caused the fight between him and Yeo Woon came from Myung Ha. Meanwhile, Yeo Woon appears preoccupied as he prepares for his lane. He stands idly while the other competitors get to their respective places. Myung Ha, who notices Yeo Woon, immediately comes to the railing of the audience and shouts his name until Yeo Woon recognizes his voice and wakes up from his trance. Yeo Woo, who finally sees where the voice is coming from, recognizes Myung Ha and goes into his stand. On his feet are the brand-new shoes that Myung Ha gave him. As Yeo Woon runs toward the finish line, his fondness level towards Myung Ha goes from negative ninety-nine to zero. Myung Ha immediately goes to Yeo Woon to congratulate him for finishing, although the latter starts to tear up as he only got third place. The now-emotional Yeo Woon continues to cry and asks Myung Ha why he cares for him so much. He admits that Myung Ha being nice to him makes him imagine the things behind these actions. Before Myung Ha can answer, Yeo Woon’s coach calls him for a regroup, so they plan to eat together afterward.

As they eat in a Korean barbeque restaurant, Yeo Woon keeps on paying attention to Myung Ha, who gets baffled as he also sees the fondness level starting to rise positively. The two walk together, and Yeo Woon offers to help Myung Ha. He gets disappointed when the latter refuses his help. To add to his disappointment, Myung Ha asks him to meet up with Si-A, as she is a big fan of his. Before they parted ways, Yeo Won thanked Myung Ha shyly. As soon as Myung Ha gets inside their house, he immediately feels weak and collapses to the floor. He also gets a flashback of his conversation with his senior before he fell asleep, where his senior asks him to answer a questionnaire that he says will help him. Before he loses consciousness, he sees his senior mouthing that he should find his happiness. Upon regaining his strength, Myung Ha tries to connect all the clues he has gained from being in the game until the message box appears once again and reminds him that he has 288 days remaining. The following day, the bullies try to corner Myung Ha who is with Kyung Hun at the time, and the leader insults them by accusing them of being gay. Instead of fighting with his first, Myung Ha kisses the leader of the bully and calls him gay as well for kissing another man. Myung Ha threatens the leader that he will kiss him should he try to call him a slur again. Later that day, Yeo Woon notices the marks on Myung Ha’s face and brings him to the clinic to treat his wound. Myung Ha blabbers that kissing is better than being punched, startling Yeo Woon. Myung Ha explains that he kissed someone, but it doesn’t have any meaning. Meanwhile, Yeo Woon stares at Myung Ha’s lips and thinks that he wants to kiss him as well. On the other hand, Sang Won engages in a fight with the bullies after learning that Myung Ha kissed the leader. The bullies start to gang up on Sang Won after he tells them he’s gay and provokes him also.

That evening, Si-A offers a modeling job to Myung Ha but promises not to show his face in the photos, although the latter hesitates to answer. Outside the building, Yeo Woon waits for Myung Ha, who comes out with Si-A and introduces the two. Si-A excitedly converses with Yeo Woon and even asks him to give her an autograph. Si-A asks for Yeo Woon’s inspiration when he runs, to which the latter answers that he used to think that a crocodile was chasing him or that a car was about to crash into him, but he later changes it to someone waiting for him at the finish line while looking at Myung Ha knowingly. On their way home, Yeo Woon sulks that he thought he was getting dinner with Myung Ha alone and asks him to come with him to Yongma Land as a reward for getting third place in the race. Myung Ha agreed to go, which made Yeo Woon smile so big. Meanwhile, Si-A meets with the model, who will be paired up with Yeo Woon. The model asks Si-A for a favor.

On the day they go to Yongma Land, Myung Ha has a dream that Yeo Woon initiated to kiss him. The same morning, he meets Yeo Woon, who is waiting for him excitedly at the bus station. Yeo Woon shyly confesses that he woke up early to pick Myung Ha up before the two rode the bus. In Yongma Land, which is located near the sea, the two stroll around while talking about things like seagulls and liking the sea, in Myung Ha’s case. They also plan to hike a mountain next time. Yeo Woon says upfront that he believes that as long as he is with Myung Ha, he is going to have a good time. As they talk, Myung Ha slips on mentioning things he knows about Yeo Woon that he learned when he read the novel, making Yeo Woon comment that he sometimes feels like Myung Ha knows him too well. When Myung Ha invites Yeo Woon to find food, the latter tells him instead that he’s starting to understand now why Myung Ha likes the sea.

Writer’s Thoughts:

We are excited to see how far the fondness level will go now that it has finally increased! We suppose that Myung Ha’s response to homophobia will rank among the highlights of this episode, if not the entire series. Something that doesn’t happen very often because fistfights usually result. We particularly appreciate Sang Won’s self-assured admission of being gay, even though we’re not sure if this is merely a way to make fun of his tormentors or if he truly is—especially given how much he seems to be interested in Myung Ha. In the meantime, our beloved Yeo Woon finally turns over a new leaf and shows his affection for Myung Ha by becoming vocal and clinging—that is if it isn’t clear enough from the way that his level of fondness went from negative ninety to positive. We are a little conflicted about the fact that the series is already halfway done because it is such a refreshing KBL show for the year, but we are also eager to see how far the potential love triangle with the missions develops. Be sure to watch out for episodes 5 and 6 to find out what happens next!
