Oh No! ‘Skam Korea’ Is Cancelled

Another one bites the dust!

On March 25, Monday, STUDIOX+U, the production company that brought us the dramas ‘Night Has Come’ and ‘High Cookie’, announced through a YouTube video on their channel that a Korean adaptation of Skam is on the way this year.

Things certainly took an interesting route as it turns out that the planned adaptation will not be pushing through anymore.

On April 22, Monday, an article on Xports News reported that the production of ‘Skam Korea’, which had raised people’s expectations, has been ultimately canceled, much to fans’ dismay.

The article made no mention of any reason as to why the show was scrapped and rectified the initial reports that the Korean version of Skam would be retitled ‘Fragile’.

As it turns out, ‘Fragile’ will be an entirely different series that “honestly tells the stories of teenagers who cope with taboos and errors through challenges and failures, love and heartbreak, studies and deviations.” It is cheduled to be released in the second half of 2024.

The OG series has been lauded for its queer representation as well as its sensitive and accurate approach to various issues such as bullying, mental health, relationship issues, sexual harassment, homophobia, Islamophobia, and academic pressure.

It has not been confirmed yet if ‘Fragile’ will be taking inspiration from ‘Skam’ or if it will be including queer characters and storylines as of this writing so be sure to follow their official YouTube account here and stay tuned to BLTai for more updates on this series.
