Episode 7: The gift I’ve always wanted to receive
Before Jin Woo met Ki Sub in his hometown, his father’s laboratory assistants called him, requesting him to return home to deliver an important document. However, since Jin Woo was not at his rented house that day and Ki Sub was there, his father ended up asking Ki Sub to deliver the document instead.
Jin Woo sees Ki Sub waiting for him on the other end of the station, returning him to the present. Ki Sub asks Jin Woo where he has been and how his sudden disappearance worried him; the latter explains that he got caught up studying. Jin Woo questions why Ki Sub abruptly left after admitting his failure, but Ki Sub maintains his composure by explaining that it was because Jin Woo already met Hye Jin on the first day of snowfall. Jin Woo clarifies that he doesn’t have a romantic relationship with her and prepares to confess, but a call from the laboratory interrupts their discussion. Ki Sub speculates that Jin Woo’s father may have been worried so much that he asked their landlord to check up on him, but Jin Woo disagrees. He then says that his father only looked for him because he needs the document that Ki Sub has. Unable to comprehend why Jin Woo’s father will think less of his son than a piece of paper, Ki Sub tears it apart. He goes on to explain that he only went along with Jin Woo’s father in the hopes of finding him. When Jin Woo picks up the papers, he recognizes his father’s handwriting and realizes that it is a vital part of the research and instantly panics. Ki Sub attempts to piece the paper back together until Jin Woo tells him that he will handle it instead.
Finally, the two travel to Jin Woo’s childhood home, where Ki Sub attempts to piece the paper together once more. Meanwhile, Jin Woo receives a video call from his dad, asking him to talk. He apologizes for the torn document and promises to have it fixed by the next day. He also says that he’s the one who tore the paper, but his father seems to not buy it. To his surprise, his father asks him if his friend, Ki Sub, was the one who tore the paper apart, knowing full well that he wouldn’t do it given the importance of his research. Jin Woo admits that he knows his father’s research is more important than his son’s. Jin Woo’s father then says that Ki Sub gave him an earful earlier that day and tells him little things about Jin Woo, like his favorite food or his routine. Jin Woo’s father admits that the research helped him forget the death of his wife. He also saw it as a way to portray himself as a perfect father, but now he realizes how wrong it was. Jin Woo’s father is happy that someone understands his son’s comfort zone. The father and son reconcile and promise to reconnect once the former comes back.
Jin Woo enters his bedroom’s attic and discovers all of his childhood mementos, at the same time, Ki Sub, who is searching for him, sees the stairs to the attic and joins him. The two discuss how Jin Woo’s father told him they could throw the paper even though Ki Sub had finished taping it. As Ki Sub approaches him, Jin Woo becomes flustered and complains of the attic being too small for the both of them before rushing downstairs. Meanwhile, Ki Sub sees on his smartwatch that his heart is beating fast. Later that night, Ki Sub lies awake on the floor while Jin Woo sleeps on the bed. Ki Sub then exits the room and prepares a list of activities to do on a date. Meanwhile, Balg Eum, whom Ki Sub calls on the phone to consult with, continues to isolate himself from the world. The next day, Jin Woo finds Ki Sub all dressed up and waiting excitedly for him. The latter says that they have somewhere to go while clutching the piece of paper he worked on the night before. They head to a museum, and although Jin Woo complains about it being boring, he finds himself enjoying the activity with Ki Sub. The last part of the museum activity included stargazing under a makeshift sky. Ki Sub tells Jin Woo that it is his birthday gift and gives him a boarding pass headed to outer space with his name on it. Jin Woo initially doesn’t seem to understand what is happening, until Ki Sub reveals that he has seen a note from Jin Woo, written when he was still a child, expressing his desire to travel to outer space. While he cannot go into outer space, Ki Sub figures that at least his name can. He also has two boxes of cake for Jin Woo, one from him and the other from Jin Woo’s father.
Jin Woo calls out Ki Sub’s name before hugging him tightly. He then tells Ki Sub despite being completely opposite of his ideal type, he still likes him the way he is. He continues by asking Ki Sub to date, but the latter is suddenly unable to answer and ends up saying sorry to him.
