Episode 5: Relationship

Yeo Woon convinces the hesitant Myung Ha to go to a famous coffee shop around Yongma Land with him. As soon as they enter the premises of the coffee shop, Myung Ha begins to feel dizzy, especially when the owner of the coffee shop greets them. It turns out that Yeo Woon unknowingly brought Myung Ha to the coffee shop that he previously mentioned as the business that his mother opened, and the shop owner happens to be his mother himself. Yeo Woon tries to make Myung Ha feel better, but it irritates Myung Ha more until Yeo Woon asks him to get ice cream instead, just like how Myung Ha comforts him when he is the one who is down. After finding out the truth, Yeo Woon apologizes to Myung Ha and asks him to tell him more about himself, as he wants to make sure that he will never hurt his feelings again. Myung Ha notices that Yeo Woon’s fondness for him increases once again. Meanwhile, Si-A finds Sang Won with bruises on his face due to his most recent fight with his former friends. When Si-A expresses his worry towards him, Sang Won asks instead if Myung Ha also looked for him and bitterly comments that the latter never expressed interest in finding him anyway. Si-A asks Sang Won if he really likes Myung Ha romantically, making him question himself as well. Later that evening, Myung Ha calls Yeo Woon before going to sleep, where he insinuates that they are friends, dampening Yeo Woon’s happiness for the day. Upon getting home, Myung Ha tells his grandmother about his encounter with his mother and asks if she ever looked for him. However, his grandmother answers that there are times when people tend to forget when they are having a hard time and assumes that Myung Ha’s mother is just the same. Before going to sleep, Myung Ha sees a message prompt box that says ‘System Error’ and the things around him start to get static. He chooses to ignore it, as well as the messages from an unknown person that keep popping up on his phone.

Yeo Woon seeks Si-A for dating advice but begins to feel discouraged when she mentions that Myung Ha seems to be not interested in dating and that the kindness he shows to Yeo Woon is like that of a brother. However, Si-A still promises to help him after she makes him act cute in front of her. On the other hand, Myung Ha runs into Sang Won, who is feeling down because of the sudden illness of his pet that he lied about as his grandfather. Myung Ha’s words of comfort to Sang Won made him realize that he is really in love with the former and ask if he will accept his feelings, although Myung Ha just tells him to stop being weird. Sang Won also invites Myung Ha to watch the track and field team practice, as he just joined recently. The following morning, Yeo Woon tells Myung Ha that he will not be able to go to school due to a school event, which the latter believed. However, the truth is that Sang Won’s father, who is very broke, came to Yeo Woon thinking that he would be able to extort money from him. His father hits him hard when he starts to question why he never visited his grandmother, even after she died, but his father just mocks his feelings. Myung Ha gets a mission to earn three million yen, making him frustrated that his senior did not even give him money upon entering the game. He then goes to the track and field club and meets Sang Won, who tries to lure him into accompanying him to the hospital for his pet and avoids his questions about Yeo Woon’s location. Myung Ha becomes suspicious and asks Sang Won what happened to Yeo Woon, but the latter confesses his feelings instead. Myung Ha rejects Sang Won and tells him to date someone else.

In a flashback, Yeo Woon asks Sang Won to help him hide from Myung Ha due to the mark of his father’s slap on his face. Back to the present, Myung Ha finds Yeo Woon and tries to ask what happened to his face. To his surprise, Yeo Woon tells him that he likes him, although he doesn’t have to like him back. Myung Ha tells Yeo Woon not to like anyone except him. Yeo Woon responds that he’ll do anything Myung Ha says and even stay as friends as long as Myung Ha will not avoid him. Yeo Woon’s fondness level for Myung Ha increases as he leaves. That evening, the game reminds Myung Ha of his reward, where he can see Yeo Woon’s past and see the younger Yeo Woon praying for a complete family. Myung Ha begins questioning why he must be from another world than Yeo Woon. Some days later, Myung Ha asks Sang Won to watch over Yeo Woon on behalf of him and although the latter is still bitter about his rejection, he still went along. Sang Won also advises Myung Ha to check on Yeo Won himself instead of asking him. Myung Ha continues to work part-time jobs to fulfill his mission of earning 3 million won, including opening an Instagram account that he thinks he can sell once it gains followers. He also discovers that Kyung Hun has a boyfriend abroad who is coming back for a vacation and asks how a long-distance relationship works. When Myung Ha asks Kyung Hun how he can stay in a relationship knowing that they might break up soon due to distance, Kyung Hun tells him that it’s more of a reason to continue liking his boyfriend while they are still in a relationship. Myung Ha has a realization and runs to find Yeo Woon, who just had an argument with his father over money. As he helps Yeo Woon pick up money on the floor from the broken piggy bank, he gets a message that he has completed the 3 million won mission and can now see more of Yeo Woon’s past. Myung Ha learns that Yeo Woon’s father has been beating him up since he was a young child and is also responsible for the red mark on his face. As Yeo Woon walks Myung Ha to the terminal, Yeo Woon kisses Myung Ha after telling him that he doesn’t want to be just anyone to him.

Episode 6: Love

Myung Ha teases Yeo Woon for tensing his lips too much after kissing him and tells him that he’s been thinking about when he will last. The shy Yeo Woon answers that he’s good at practicing and can learn how to kiss better before initiating another kiss. The next day, they go on a movie date after Yeo Woon follows dating advice from Si-A, and despite the initial awkwardness, the two end up having fun, and Myung Ha learns of Yeo Woon’s romantic side. Yeo Woon asks Myung Ha if he can kiss him again, but before they can even do so, the latter’s phone rings and interrupts them with a call from Sang Won. Myung Ha brings Yeo Woon with him and Si-A to her shop and finds out that his Instagram account has gone viral because of his good-looking physique in his photos. Just as she is explaining, the game tells Myung Ha that his mission now is to have Yeo Woon’s Instagram account gain a hundred thousand followers. Myung Ha tries to make Yeo Woon’s Instagram gain more followers by taking pictures of him, but ends up being perceived by their friends as him being too smitten with Yeo Woon instead. He realizes that gaining followers is harder than it looks, and Sang Won even tells him that there are weirdos out there and gaining influence on social media might actually not be a good idea.

Myung Ha goes to a classroom to call Yeo Woon, but finds himself in the music club department instead. To his surprise, every door he opens goes to another place than he expected, and his surroundings begin to become distorted. He only gains clarity upon seeing Yeo Woon who tells him that the class has already ended. As Yeo Woon drags Myung Ha, the game shows a System Error message. Myung Ha realizes that this might be a side effect of not accomplishing his mission immediately. He seeks to find a social media marketing strategist in order to make Yeo Woon gain more followers, and he also gets an offer for Yeo Woon to endorse a competing brand of running shoes from the business of Sang Won’s mother. The social media marketing strategist turns out to know how to play the game, and Yeo Woon begins to gain more followers online. He also starts being recognized by people on the street. That evening, Myung Ha gets another mysterious message on his phone that he assumes to be from his senior, telling him that he should understand the clues he has been leaving for him and that a lot of things still need to be fixed in the game. Myung Ha becomes dizzy, and all of his encounters with Yeo Woon suddenly flash in his mind. The game tells him all the missions he has accomplished so far and also says that a new character will be introduced, Yeo Woon’s enemy. Yeo Woon starts to have fans and stalkers as well, with one of the stalkers sending death threats to Myung Ha. His Instagram account also gets hacked by an unknown person. On Myung Ha’s way to meet their friends, Yeo Woon’s stalker tries to push him into the traffic and almost gets hit by a car, but is stopped by Sang Won, who arrives just in time. Sang Won tries to run after the stalker, but Myung Ha tells him to let it go instead. Sang Won reminds Myung Ha that with a stalker around, their lives could be endangered, and him being lenient shows that he doesn’t know how to care for himself and be loved. Myung Ha remembers his previous girlfriend, who broke up with him, and tells him that he doesn’t know how to be loved. Myung Ha asks Yeo Woon to stay over at his place in hopes of being able to protect him from his stalker. However, they find his grandmother sick instead and bring her to the hospital. The game continues to show a system error message to Myung Ha and also asks him to choose between Yeo Woon and his grandmother. The game insists on Myung Ha choosing in order to resolve the system error and stabilize the servers.

Writer’s Thoughts

While we are happy and feeling giddy with the development of Myung Ha and Yeo Woon’s relationship, our theory that Myung Ha’s senior has something to do with him being stuck in the game and getting played goes stronger with how Episode 6 ended. It also looks like the more Myung Ha finishes the mission successfully, the more the game will give him a hard time, including making him choose between Yeo Woon and his grandmother. Will Myung Ha be able to save them both, or will the system error decide his fate? Let’s find out in BLTai’s recap of ‘Love for Love’s Sake’ finale episodes dropping here anytime soon, so be sure to stay tuned!
