‘Boy Meets Boy’ starts with the lead character, Min-soo as he takes off a film rollout of his camera.
Warning: spoilers ahead. Proceed with caution!
As he puts it to the case, however, it drops down the steps and ends up rolling to another person’s feet. Moments later, we see Min-soo studying on a bus. As he tries to put back his pen into his pencil case, a film roll jumps out of his bag and rolls over to someone else’s feet, mirroring what happened earlier. A boy in a cap picks up the film roll just as Min-soo stands up to get it. Min-soo beats himself up for it and seems to be debating what to do next. He gathers his courage and stands up. Slowly, he walks up to the boy with the cap and they stare at each other’s eyes. There is an instant spark through their silent but meaningful stares and their electric chemistry is off the charts when the boy wordlessly returns his film roll. Their hands brush just the slightest and Min-soo is surprised. He shyly goes back to his seat only to find another person sitting there which forces him to stand up for the entirety of the bus ride.
Min-soo looks over the window and then tries to steal a glance at the boy, only to find the boy standing next to him. They share a look before looking away. Ha! Who else is punching their pillows?
Min-soo’s stop arrives. He alights the bus and immediately feels like he is being followed. He stops, considers things for a while, and then starts walking quickly with a smile playing on his lips. He slows down to a stop, all the while trying to get a feel of where his little stalker is. On a whim, he turns around and sees nobody there. Alas, he was not being followed after all. Or was he?
Disappointed, he starts wandering and looks back once more, only to crash into the boy. Ack!
Ye Ji-won (Another Miss Oh, Heavenly Idol) appears decked in an all-white fairy slash cupid outfit and starts advising a cheesy song.
“If you want to hit on someone, thrust your fists, pull out your gun, and brandish your knife.”
“Be careful when you hook up on the streets. A macho man is the worst.” True that, Miss Fairy.
The entire sequence is hilarious with the comical animation as Miss Fairy continues to sing her pieces of advice. First, she says, is to keep looking at the one you’re into so he’ll end up looking at you too. But then, he’ll go for your wallet and steal it so you better run fast. Gold diggers are the worst, she says. Cackling! You don’t actually know if she’s trying to play Cupid or just trying to give a real talk.
Next, she says to try to walk past him. Look at his reaction and if he tries to walk past you, then it means he’s going for someone else! But if he follows you, carry on and try to control the speed. If he matches you, then you can go for it! He’s into you, too!
“Be careful when you hook up on the streets. It’s full of dangers and thrills,” she sings.
Indeed it is!
