‘What Did You Eat Yesterday?’ Coming to GagaOOLala; Premieres September 15th

On August 31st, LGBTQ+ BL streaming service GagaOOLala announced that it will feature the first season of ‘What Did You Eat Yesterday?’ in two weeks.

‘What Did You Eat Yesterday?’ is a slice-of-life Japanese drama based on a manga series of the same name that focuses on the relationship between Shiro Kakei and Kenji Yabuki, a middle-aged gay couple living in Tokyo, Japan. Naoko Adachi served as the drama’s screenwriter, and Kazuhito Nakae, Katsumi Nojiri, and Kenji Katagiri served as its directors. Hidetoshi Nishijima and Seiyo Uchino are its stars.

Shiro Kakei’s regular routine is that after work he buys groceries at a mart which has discounted prices. He has a monthly budget of 25,000 yen ($225) for food that he does not go over. Afterwards, he goes home and makes dinner which usually includes rice, soup, and three side dishes. When dinner is about ready, Kenji Yabuki comes home from work. While they eat, the two men talk about pretty much everything. Their time during dinner is a precious time for them.

One day, when Shiro Kakei and Kenji Yabuki are out in public, Kenji Yabuki’s customer comes up to them and asks “Is he your boyfriend who is a lawyer?” Shiro Kakei is embarrassed. He did not tell people at his law firm that he is gay, unlike Kenji Yabuki who is open about his sexual orientation. Shiro Kakei feels uncomfortable.

The first season of ‘What Did You Eat Yesterday’ will be available to stream on GagaOOLala worldwide except in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Thailand, starting on September 15th at midnight (GMT+8).

On the other hand, it is reportedly having its sequel which is slated to be released this year.
