You heard that right — the Japanese anime ‘Given’ will be having another movie sequel!
‘Given’ (ギヴン) is a Japanese anime by artist and creator Natsuki Kizu, with the manga originally released in 2014. The anime series premiered in the summer of 2019 with 11 episodes. The story, which starts in the series, revolves around four main characters and band members — Mafuyu, Uenoyama, Haruki, and Akihiko. It all started when Uenoyama sees a student on a staircase he usually uses to sleep in. This student was Mafuyu, and he was staying there during their gym class while peculiarly holding a guitar with broken strings that he does not know how to play. Learning that Uenoyama has knowledge of a guitar, Mafuyu begs him to help him fix the guitar and teach him how to play it. He, then, invites Mafuyu to a jam session with his bandmates and older friends, Haruki and Akihiko. This starts their journey through music, relationship, grief, and friendship.
Meanwhile, the 60-minute movie revolved around the relationship between Haruki and Akihiko, while giving us tidbits about the innocent relationship between Mafuyu and Uenoyama. No further information has been released on what the new movie sequel’s plot will be except that Hiiragi, Mafuyu’s friend, is one of the main characters. It will most likely be about the plot arc (based on the manga) of Mafuyu joining Hiiragi’s band temporarily as a vocalist, which will cause a rift in his relationship with Uenoyama.
