Episode 4

Fuyu extends an invitation to Itsuki to show her appreciation for saving Tsuki from a car accident. Observing that Fuyu was only serving Tsuki fast food from the convenience store for supper, Itsuki offered to prepare dinner for them. When the food is ready, the three of them sit down to eat, and Tsuki can’t stop complimenting Fuyu on how good the food is. Fuyu asks her a curious question about when she started cooking, to which she says she has always done so. When Tsuki unintentionally spills soup on her clothes, Itsuki discovers that Fuyu doesn’t even know where the wipe cloths are, which suggests that Fuyu doesn’t know anything about her household. Fuyu then informs her that her husband is in charge of keeping up with house maintenance. Additionally, Itsuki prepared a bento for Tsuki’s school the next day before leaving. As she packs her things, she sees Fuyu following her and scowling at the last minute. Itsuki puts her bag back on the table with a smile that seems amused. Instead of going home, Itsuki spends the night next to Fuyu and Tsuki, lying there when she senses Fuyu rising. The sound of breaking glass carries her to the kitchen, where she discovers Fuyu staring blindly at the now-broken glass of milk inside the microwave. Fuyu claims she didn’t realize not all glasses could be heated in a microwave when she wanted to reheat her milk. They sit down at the dining table, facing each other, after Itsuki warms up milk for them both. Itsuki remarked idly that Fuyu’s husband would probably return soon after she revealed that her husband had left without saying anything for the first time. The next day, Fuyu talks to the team about their performance in the first online meeting and informs them that for Dynamic Dream to be awarded the project, they must receive a score of at least ninety in the second one. She also says they need to get ready because her supervisor will be flying over to personally supervise them. In an attempt to increase manpower, the team hires part-timers, but eventually, each one of them leaves, leaving the original members of the team alone. When Itsuki offers to call for help, Risa and Ayaka are inspired to call their friends in the industry. The group, having become more accustomed to one another, starts collaborating well. A few days later, Risa and Ayaka inform Itsuki that Fuyu gave them herbal remedies for Risa’s menstrual discomfort and Ayaka’s children. The two concur that Fuyu is a tsundere—someone who appears cold on the outside but is compassionate on the inside. Itsuki reminisces about the times Fuyu used to tend to her when she was ill.

Although encouraging developments at work continue, Fuyu’s husband, Koh, has not yet returned. Itsuki chooses to stay at Fuyu’s house and assist her in the meantime, realizing that she is under a lot of pressure to support Dynamic Dreams rather than the American company that Vincent had originally intended to hire. Meanwhile, Tsuki grows fond of Itsuki and clings to her. Itsuki also realizes that she is so at ease living with Fuyu and Tsuki that a part of her wishes that their arrangement would last forever. One evening, Fuyu asks Itsuki how she can care for her ex-girlfriend’s child because she finds it impossible to imagine doing the same. Itsuki responded that she wasn’t interested in actively caring for both. Fuyu tells her that it’s her fault that they ended up in that situation, but she refuses to explain when Itsuki asks why. Their conversation is interrupted when they hear Tsuki crying for Itsuki’s name, who immediately comes to her rescue. Tsuki ends up having a viral inspection that will require isolation. Itsuki volunteers to stay with her in the meantime, as Fuyu is more needed at work before her superior arrives. Fuyu expresses her thanks to Itsuki for helping her out. At the end of Tsuki’s isolation, she and Itsuki sent a video of them waiting excitedly for Fuyu to come home. Fuyu watches the video fondly until she receives a message from her strict superior, Asami, who tells her that she will arrive earlier and expects her to immediately set the meeting, ruining her plan to come home right after work. Both Itsuki and Tsuki are disappointed when Fuyu calls to inform them that she will not be able to return home. Asami praises the work of the team, although Fuyu seems to wonder how the former seems to be just full of praise contrary to her usual demeanor. Asami also forces Fuyu to drink with her that night and reminds her that it’s a Chinese tradition to welcome guests.

That night, Fuyu arrives at home drunk, angering Itsuki, who has been waiting for her the whole time. Itsuki berates Fuyu for drinking so late that she even makes her daughter wait for her, and she bitterly says that it’s no wonder that her husband left her. Fuyu raises her voice at Itsuki and tells her to just leave instead, prompting the latter to pack up her belongings. When Itsuki is about to leave, Fuyu ends up trying to stop her and kissing her in an attempt to make her stay. Itsuki immediately pushes Fuyu away and tells her that she is unfair for doing that. Fuyu answers that it was Itsuki who was unfair for betraying her when she knew that she couldn’t live without her. As Fuyu breaks down and lets out all the emotions she has been keeping inside about their breakup, she dismisses Itsuki’s apologies and continues how miserable she has felt since then. She slaps Itsuki, who tries to stop her from further inflicting more pain. Itsuki tries to hug Fuyu as she keeps on apologizing, but the latter continues to push her away until they both collapse to the ground, overwhelmed with too much emotion. Itsuki tells Fuyu that if she only knew how much it would hurt her, then she would have refused.

In a flashback, Fuyu’s mother begs Itsuki to break up with her daughter, as there is a belief in China that same-sex love will not lead to happiness. Itsuki then asks Aoyama to pretend to be her boyfriend so she will have a reason for the breakup. Fuyu questions Itsuki for not telling her, but the latter answers that she tried to keep her promise to Fuyu’s mother, although she didn’t want to break up with her. Itsuki confesses that she wants them to be together forever and that she’s still in love with her. Fuyu confesses that she also feels the same before Itsuki caresses her face gently and then kisses her. The two make love just like in the old days and are about to kiss again when they hear the doorknob click.

Writer’s Thoughts:

So that was very unexpected and an episode that might be a dealbreaker for the viewers as it explicitly showed Fuyu cheating on her missing-in-action husband and Itsuki, who ends up going along with it. We are also finally given the reason why Itsuki broke up with Fuyu before, however, the anguish they felt because of the said breakup does not give them a free pass to cheat. As for now, we can only wait to see how the two will fare together as soon as Fuyu’s husband returns, which we think will come sooner than expected. Find out what happens next in ‘Chaser Game W: My Evil Boss Is My Ex-Girlfriend’ which will air on February 6!
