Non-Weddings And Parents-In-Law Problems Center in EP2 of ‘Ossan’s Love Returns’

Ossan's Love Returns

It’s time for Maki to meet Haruta’s mom and let her know about their marriage on EP2 of ‘Ossan’s Love Returns‘!

Ossan's Love Returns

Maki and Haruta wake up in the morning and have their sweet moment, even so while eating breakfast together. Haruta informs Maki that his mother will be visiting them in the coming week and he said that they should be able to tell her about them being a couple and living together. Maki agrees, excited yet worrying about the “meet the parents” situation.

But all of these thoughts fly out the window when Haruta leaves their house and sees his new colleague, Izumi, passed out and bloodied on the pavement next door.  Haruta panics and is about to call for help, when a strange man suddenly appears, carries Izumi, and tells him to forget about what he witnessed. Of course, no sane man would be able to forget what he saw, which he thought of the whole day even at the office. Haruta tells his boss, Takegawa, about what he saw, but it was not made a huge deal. Instead, they both went to a seminar, which Takegawa did not even take seriously, too, because he was busy being scammed on his dating app. After the event, Haruta caught up with Maki who also attended the same seminar. Maki asked him when his mother-in-law would come, and Haruta said he was not sure yet, and for him not to make too much of a fuss about it. Haruta thought about the word “mother-in-law” and realized Maki was basically that to his mother. However, Maki emphasized that he didn’t want a wedding, explaining that he was embarrassed to do “cake-cutting” and “kissing in public” ceremonies at weddings. Haruta was left standing alone, stunned that that was what his boyfriend wanted. He, then, questions what marriage is about if they’re not going to do an official wedding ceremony.

The former team members continued with their get-together (sans Chief Kurosawa) in celebration of the New Year’s and Maki’s return to the head office. Haruta talks to Chizu about his problems with the lack of wedding ceremonies, and she tells him that even if they’re legally married, things can still get complicated. Maki joins in, and talks about his own woes about meeting his mother-in-law. Then, the get-together eventually ends when Choko gets mad at Kuribayashi and leaves.

Ossan's Love Returns

Maru goes home to Maki and Haruta’s house, complaining about his problem with Choko, who goes home late and spends more money than usual. They find Chief Kurosawa still at the house but is about to leave. Maru asks him to stay and they all talk about his problem with Choko and his mother, who was 10 years younger than his girlfriend. Maru was complaining to his friends about his problems, and even thinking that Choko was cheating on him. Chief put his foot down and really defended his ex-wife, saying that Choko would do no such thing.

The next day, Haruta was buying a list of items that Maki asked him to buy, and sees Izumi once again. He follows him to wherever he is going. He sees him enter a house which turns out to be an archery place. He was greeted by Choko, who was actually teaching archery there, as well. They talked for a bit about what happened at the get-together yesterday, and she briefly touched on the subject that she admits it is difficult to start a relationship with a stranger (her boyfriend’s mother). He, then, remembered he was there to see Izumi, and he went on and saw Izumi doing archery.

Back at the newlyweds’ (but not yet wed) home, Haruta goes home to a petty Chief Kurosawa who asks him to clean a bit even when he’s not there. Maki tasted the food he was eating and said it tasted salty. The two get into a hilarious scuffle until Haruta gets home. Kurosawa leaves, but not before throwing his apron violently towards Maki. Their former boss gets into a soliloquy about how confused he feels about his feelings for Haruta when he knows he wants only the best for them as a couple. At home, however, Haruta nags about Maki not getting along well with Kurosawa, whom he deemed as a father figure. When Maki asked him which side was he really on, Haruta said he was neutral, angering Maki further and leading him to walk out of their conversation. Haruta was stunned and asked why he was angry.

It was still in his thoughts when he was lining up to get a rice wrap at a food truck, and when he was talking to a housewife. While ordering, however, he sees the strange man who picked up Izumi and was about to say something until he gave him a free rice wrap. But Haruta was once again distracted when he saw Choko dilly-dallying right across from him. He runs up to her and finds out that Choko is actually fangirling over 4 Chimin, a boy group! It was actually the reason why she goes home late and spends money on fan merchandise. Haruta tells her that he thought their spat as a couple was about Choko’s mother-in-law, and Choko said that it was just about how she could not really relate to her mother-in-law who was 10 years younger than her. And it was also mostly about how Maru chose his mother over her, when as a married couple, would it not make sense that they should choose each other over anything? Haruta’s thoughts flashed back to how he also chose to be neutral over Maki and Chief Kurosawa, now understanding why Maki got angry.

When Haruta got home, he saw Maki meticulously preparing for his mother’s arrival the next day. He was doing the same thing even early the next day, leading Maki to feel lightheaded due to exhaustion. Haruta ended up doing all of the household work for him so he could rest, however, things were not going well. But as luck would have it, Chief Kurosawa comes by their house to hand Haruta the earmuffs he let him borrow. He saw an opportunity to ask for help, and Chief Kurosawa delivered! After cooking delicious food, he went on his way. Maki thought about how Chief took note of the food not being too salty. The two, then, get ready for Haruta’s mom’s arrival.

Maru followed his wife, Choko, to a 4 Chimin event, albeit Maru’s annoyance. Despite that, however, he wanted to see what was good about the idol group that his wife was spending her time at. But lo and behold! They see Maru’s mother in line at the event as well. This became one of the reasons why the two eventually found a common ground and had a relationship as daughter and mother-in-law.

When Choko was walking home one day, she saw her ex-husband, Chief Kurosawa, who looked like he was contemplating. He talks about his complicated feelings for Haruta, and Choko points out that it seems that he has a feeling of being Haruta’s “mother-in-law”, as someone who thinks no one is good enough for Haruta. Chief Kurosawa sighed in relief that it was his feelings, after all.

And speaking of mother-in-law, Maki and Haruta eventually meet Haruta’s mother and admit that they had a verbal agreement to be in a marriage four years ago. More than not being accepted, Haruta’s mother did not look the least bit shocked and asked more about the wedding ceremony. She was not able to spend more time with the couple because of his “wild boy” new boyfriend and had to leave immediately. But it was not until she congratulated the two on their marriage and planned to have a double date with his boyfriend. The two felt elated about having Haruta’s mother’s blessing. Come dinner time the next day, Haruta asked Maki if he could also meet his parents. Maki nonchalantly asks Haruta what if they have their own wedding ceremony. Haruta was incredibly happy, agreeing that they would do everything and not half-ass the ceremony.

Everything seems to be going well for the couple until Haruta encounters another deja vu! Izumi is, once again, bloodied. But this time, no strange man appears to carry him. As he was calling for help, Izumi pulled him down for a kiss. Chief Kurosawa, who was hiding nearby, sees the incident and was left in shock.

What will happen to everyone involved? Will this create more trouble in paradise?
