Episode 3 – Into Your World
In the Photography club, Hira is talking to Koyama about the photo he will submit, which Hira said he still has no idea what to send. The rest of the day, Hira thinks about what type of photo he will send. Back at home, Kiyoi speaks about how amazing Anna’s talent is. He, then, asks Hira what type of photo is he going to submit to the photo contest, and Hira said he submitted a photo of the city. Hira continues to take photos of Kiyoi.
The next day, Hira wakes Kiyoi in alarm because he thought Kiyoi was already late, but he wasn’t. On Kiyoi’s schedule, Suspicious-kun (Hira) followed his idol, as usual, together with the other fans.
After an exhilarating day, Hira goes back to the photography club where he found out that one of the members passed the first round of the photography contest. Unfortunately, Hira did not pass the contest. He walks out of the club distraught, with Koyama running after him to convince him to make one of the photographers comment on his photo, which Hira declined. Hira went home on his bike feeling shaken and dejected.
Hira was cooking when Kiyoi just got home. But more than the meal, Kiyoi was more interested in how the results were. However, Hira felt embarrassed that he didn’t get in, fully expecting that Kiyoi will get mad. But Kiyoi assured him that he isn’t mad and that it was normal to fail. Hira felt encouraged by Kiyou’s words but he couldn’t help feeling like he should work even harder to “reach Kiyoi’s level”.
At home, while drying Kiyoi’s hair, Hira received a phone call from Naho-chan, his cousin. He panicked because his cousin was coming over unexpectedly. His family seemingly had no idea that the two of them are living together. Despite the surprise, Naho-chan said that it was odd that Hira spoke about Kiyoi as more of a fan than a ‘friend’. Huge emphasis on ‘friend’. Naho-chan’s child also asked Kiyoi if he is Hira’s ‘friend’ and Kiyoi did not have an answer to that.
After Hira’s relatives left, Hira mentions that the reason why Naho-chan visited is to see how Hira was doing. Hira reassured Kiyoi that only told her that they are just friends, but he hated saying they are just friends. Kiyoi felt happy for a while seemingly thinking that Hira wanted to reveal that they are more than just friends. However, Hira said that he felt being friends means being on the same level as Kiyoi, and he just seemed like he is not worthy. Kiyoi pauses and then mentions that he’s glad Hira’s parents will not be worried about him anymore. But Hira noticed that there was a change in Kiyoi, so he asked him if he was worried about his parents. Hira said that Kiyoi should not worry about his parents since Kiyoi and his parents have nothing to do with each other. This angers Kiyoi so much. He thought Hira did not want a future with him and have no intention of taking their relationship to the next level. Hira apologizes and is confused why Kiyoi was so angry. He kept saying that they are just at different levels in life, and he did not want to drag Kiyoi down with him. Kiyoi cries and storms out.
Episode 4 – My Answer is… You
After their huge fight last episode, Hira was certain that Kiyoi left for good. However, when he went outside their room, Kiyoi was sleeping on the floor amidst all of the clothes he was folding the previous night. They had a talk, and Kiyoi asked why he didn’t look for him or even gave him a call. Hira confirmed that he really didn’t think Kiyoi would come back. Kiyoi asked him why he thought he came back, and Hira seriously mentioned that maybe it was because Kiyoi wanted to hit him. But Kiyoi only tapped his cheek and said he won’t kiss him for a while until he can “face him properly”, which means that Hira would not put Kiyoi on a pedestal. Just as they were talking, they received a message on their high school group chat that one of their classmates, Shirota, is getting married and so it was a good reason for a reunion.
The day of the reunion came and Hira came ahead and sat awkwardly while Kiyoi came a bit later, to the delight of their classmates who felt like a famous person graced their gathering. The moment Kiyoi came, he immediately said “ginger ale” and Hira hurriedly gets his drink. Everybody was praising everybody in the high school circle, and it came back to Kiyoi, but he deflected and said the most successful is the couple who was about to get married. Meanwhile, Hira felt like everybody was moving on except himself.
On the way home after the gathering, Kiyoi and Hira went back to the playground they used to hang around at. There, Kiyoi reminded himself that Hira is the type of person that cannot take a hint, so he needs to be more direct with him. Then, Kiyoi explained that he felt hurt when Hira said Kiyoi will not have anything to do with his parents, and that felt like Hira does not see a future with him. Hira explained that his whole life belongs to Kiyoi, but he felt like Kiyoi might not like that because he is not worthy of him. Hira feeling this way has a lot to do with how he still can’t find a job and how interviews aren’t going well. He said he likes Hira, but he wants to be something more for him. Kiyoi reiterated that he likes him, too, and that he can provide for both of them since he earns well. However, he knows that it is not something that Hira wants. Hira smiles and takes his bike so they can ride home. He apologizes again and said that it is his first relationship. Kiyoi sits down at his bike and reminds him that it is his first relationship, too.
Back at the photography club, Koyama mentions that the photographer, Noguchi Hiromina, asked why Hira is the only member who did not submit an entry and said that he was upset. Hira, then, goes to Noguchi Hiromina to ask for forgiveness, but instead, he talks to him and asks him to be his assistant since his assistant recently move to the countryside. Hira asked why the photographer wanted him in particular, and he mentioned that he was one of the judges of “Young Photographica” and thought Hira’s photos were lifeless. Hira was about to get upset, but Noguchi Hiromina said that he reminded Hira of himself when he was young.
Meanwhile, Valentine’s Day is approaching and Anna asks Kiyoi if he likes chocolates. Kiyoi said he doesn’t hate it, but Anna said that he should give some to his girlfriend. Kiyoi, without blinking, corrected Anna and said that he does not have a girlfriend, but he has a live-in boyfriend. Anna was taken aback for a second but said it was good for him, and that she also has someone special but they don’t really meet.
Hira comes home and announces that he got a job. Kiyoi gets excited and said that the photographer is renowned. Hira goes to Kiyoi and said that he wants to take Kiyoi’s photos… not the regular ones but a photobook that has Hira’s name on it. This gave him a purpose and a will to do something. Kiyoi congratulated him and gave Hira chocolate and captain duck, to his delight. Kiyoi feeds Hira a piece of chocolate, and while eating, he stares at Kiyoi, and apologizes to him for “losing control” before they make out.
Towards the end, we see that Hira is working for the photographer and Kiyoi is still acting. They sit down near the lake while Hira takes photos of Kiyoi. They playfully bicker, and we know that everything is going to be fine with them.
And that does it for the second season of ‘My Beautiful Man’! We definitely cannot wait for the movie. And who here is to hoping that there will be a third, fourth, and forever season? Let’s all cross our fingers!
