Episode 2: Spare Key
With Shin’s house undergoing renovations and their current apartment being too small, Shin decides to live with Minato. His family has approved of this arrangement and hands Minato a letter from his mother. Shin assures Minato that he has spoken about him since they began dating, including the time Minato saved him from drowning. He also informs Minato that the renovation will be completed this summer. Shin is happy that Minato agreed, but Minato suggests he stays in the room next door instead. Shin wakes up early to cook breakfast the following day and requests the spare key before leaving. Later, Shin cooks dinner and asks for the spare key again. At night, he knocks on Minato’s door, claiming he’ll have nightmares if he sleeps alone. However, Minato refuses to give in to Shin’s pace. The following day, Shin prepares breakfast once more and asks why Minato hasn’t been looking at him as much. Minato struggles to express that it’s because he loves Shin deeply. Shin overhears Shuu talking to Asuka at the cram school and asks if they are dating. Shuu says they talk and hang out, considering it a relationship, but Shin acknowledges that it varies for different people.
While passing by the laundromat, Shin sees Minato setting up the tree outside for Tanabata and Minato offers him paper to hang his wish. Surprisingly, Shin’s wish is for Minato to confess his love and give him the spare key. Minato refuses to display it outside and pockets the paper. Asuka joins them after hearing the commotion and Minato offers him paper too. Asuka writes that he wants to achieve an A grade on his mock exam, Minato is impressed by his specific wish, but secretly it’s because Shuu agreed to go on a date with him if he gets that grade. Arriving home, Minato informs Shin that Shin doesn’t need to prepare breakfast tomorrow since he has to attend the neighborhood meeting. Instead, Minato plans to prepare dinner and cook his favorite dish, hamburgers. This greatly makes Shin happy and excited for tomorrow while in the other room, Minato looks fondly at the paper with Shin’s wishes. The next day, Minato goes shopping to prepare dinner with Shin while Shin hurries home from cram school. On his way, he notices two elderly people struggling with a heavy box of vegetables and kindly helps them before continuing. Minato opens the door and is greeted by Shin, but he’s taken aback to find his grandparents standing there as well. Minato’s grandparents express their gratitude to Shin for helping them with the box of vegetables and praise him as Minato’s close friend. They visited to discuss something important with Minato. They reveal that Minato’s current apartment will be demolished, and they have decided to rebuild it with a new building. As a result, they have prepared a place for Minato to stay, and Shin is also invited to live there, which he happily and quickly agrees to. While washing the dishes, Shin asks Minato if he’s allowed to stay with him in the new place. Minato replies that there’s no other option and reassures Shin that it’s only for the summer anyway.
