After kissing Hiro, Kai reveals that he’ll be leaving soon due to the upcoming hospital discharge of the old man. He mentions that he’ll be moving out the following Sunday and asks Hiro what he wants him to do, but Hiro instructs him not to ask him. Kai reassures him that he’ll manage somehow since he saved up some money from his job. Hiro continues to worry despite this, which shows in his work when he makes mistakes. He glances at the calendar on his desk, which has a circle drawn on Sunday with a red pen, indicating Kai’s departure. He snaps out of it when his colleagues inform him that their meeting will be starting soon. Meanwhile, Kai pays another visit to the old man, bringing flowers, and encounters his son, Koji, outside as before. Koji appears to have given Kai permission to meet his father after learning of Kai’s lack of family from the old man. Koji begins telling the story of his father, who considered closing the store six years ago after his wife died. Initially planning to live together with Koji due to the store’s overwhelming demands, the old man suddenly changed his mind and decided to continue running the store. This decision was influenced by his encounter with a young Kai, whom he saw potential in and wished to support his growth. Since then, Koji and Kenji had grown distant because Kenji didn’t explain his decision and simply told Koji that he had decided to continue running the store. Koji apologizes for his childish behavior, realizing that Kai has experienced the same circumstances. Kai places the flowers he brought in a vase, despite the old man’s comment that it will be a hassle since he’s being discharged the next day. Kai anticipated this response but insisted it was to express his thanks for everything the old man had done. Kenji argues that he doesn’t recall doing anything worthy of thanks. Kai appears to want to say something more, but ultimately remains silent and instead bids goodbye and leaves.

On the day of their project’s release, Hiro and his colleagues gather in front of his computer. Once the distribution has successfully been completed, everyone is relieved and begins thanking each other’s efforts, especially Hiro who even took on Sakamoto’s share of work. Their boss enters at this moment and reminds them not to slack off, as they’ll have new projects starting next week. He reminds Hiro about their meeting tomorrow despite it being a Sunday. Hiyori suggests having a big drink tonight, but Hiro informs them that he’ll stay longer as he has things he wants to take care of. Hiyori believed they wouldn’t be able to pull it off with Kaneko and Sakamoto gone. Tatsumi mentions that this time it’s because of Hiro, and that if he disappears as well, it may be the end. Hiro comes to believe everything will work out regardless of who is gone. Even after Kai leaves, he will simply go back to his usual routine of waking up in the morning, eating, going to work, returning home, and sleeping. While walking home, he passes by the park and notices a bench. He begins to imagine himself sitting there with Kai, engaging in a fun conversation. He begins to rush home, knowing that he will undoubtedly look for Kai after he is gone. He begins to remember all of the times he was with Kai; every time he wakes up, Kai is the first person he sees. Kai would ask him if the food is to his taste whenever he eats. And whenever he looks at the balcony of his room, Kai is there to meet and welcome him home. When he opens the door, Kai will appear as if he has naturally become a part of his home. Hiro finds Kai sitting on the sofa, with dinner already prepared for him. Surprised by Hiro coming home early, Kai welcomes him home. Hiro reveals that it’s the day of the release and asks Kai if he’s going somewhere after seeing the pack of bags behind the sofa. Kai reveals that he will be moving out that day, confusing Hiro who thought he would be leaving tomorrow since the old man’s discharge is tomorrow. It seems Kai was allowed to stay in the shop until he could find his place. He ends by saying goodbye and adding that there’s no reason to be under his care any longer.

Hiro grabs Kai’s hand, stopping him from leaving by pleading that he stay there with him. Although he knows he has kept Kai waiting, he meant to give him his answer today. Hiro declines right away so Hiro believes he has had enough of him. Kai grabs Hiro’s hand when he releases his grip and tells him it’s not true. He tells the story of how he dined and dashed at the restaurant, which is why he ended up working there. He believes that the old man would have given up running the restaurant and moved in with his son if he hadn’t gone there at that time. They would have been aware of his illness sooner. Hiro emphasizes that it wasn’t his fault that the old man chose to take him in but Kai argues that it wasn’t unrelated. He expresses his fear of what might have occurred if the old man did regain consciousness. He doesn’t have anything and thinks that no matter what happens to him, it won’t matter to anyone. With tears welling up in his eyes, Kai sees how his presence can sometimes be a burden to others. He walks away, knowing that being involved with people is heavy. He thinks he was being selfish for going to see Hiro either. Hiro has tears in his eyes when he remembers the first time he met Kai. As Kai leaves the area, he stops to have one final look at Hiro’s balcony. He hears Hiro ring the wind chime and turns to look back. Hiro responds to Kai, acknowledging that being involved with people can be frightening but he also knows that Kai went there for that reason. Hiro cuts Kai off when he tries to argue, telling him that he has turned in his resignation letter at work. He wouldn’t be able to face him if he remained the same. They’ve come so far to part ways now so he wants Kai to accept accountability by coming back to him. While is still hesitant, Hiro reassures him that he wouldn’t mind whatever Kai wants to do with his life as he’s just going with the flow. He declares that he wants to at least spend the rest of his life with him.

Returning to Hiro’s apartment, Kai faces him and remarks on what sounded like a proposal to him. Hiro confirms that it is a proposal. When Kai calls him by his name, Hiro warns him not to since it brings back memories of their childhood. Kai responds that he’s no longer a child. He calls Hiro breathlessly and kisses him. Kai tells him he wants to do it, and Hiro agrees, so Kai drags him into the room. Hiro collapses into the bed, grabs his leg, and claims he has a cramp. He can’t help it; he doesn’t get enough exercise. Kai pats Hiro’s cramping leg before sitting down on the bed and leaning in for a kiss. The following morning, Kai and Hiro are asleep in bed when Hiro’s boss calls his phone. Kai passes the ringing phone to Hiro who throws it at the end of the bed. Kai reminds him that he can’t quit right away just because he sent in his resignation letter but Hiro notes that it’s Sunday, and the two of them continue to lie down in bed. Kaneko happens to meet Hiyori and Tatsumi at the park, as well as Sakamoto, who is busy with the grill. Hiyori wonders if Hiro is in the area as well, considering the coincidence but Kaneko informs her of Hiro’s event. At Hiro’s place, Hiro and Kai are preparing to harvest the baby tomatoes but Hiro is unable to due to his sentimental attachment. Kai cuts it for him to use for dinner. They both lean in for a kiss when Hiro receives a photo message from Kaneko. Kai snatches his phone and reminds him of their important event, jealous of Kaneko. Hiro can’t help but respond because Kaneko is his boss now, but Kai declares Hiro is his now. Hiro agrees to respond later, but it appears Kai was just playing around as usual. He puts him in a headlock and once they’ve calmed down, they sit at the head of the couch, gazing at the ringing wind chime on the balcony.

A romance that started with a proposal and ended with a proposal. Though ‘Perfect Propose’ isn’t just a romance that centers around that topic, it tackled a lot like the toxic workplace environment, lack of confidence, commitment issues, and many more. Hiro eventually gained the confidence to resign, and amazingly, he was able to have the determination and resolve to be with Kai. The plant represents their growing love for each other, and we’re glad they can finally have someone to call home.
