A BL Fanatic Concocts Fantasies in ‘Accomplishment of Fudanshi Bartender’ Episode 1

Fudanshis UNITE! Hibiki, an ordinary bartender posing as a charming, enigmatic, and ordinary man secretly gushes over his handsome customers and makes them his BL inspiration in this quirky and hot 2-episode series, ‘Accomplishment of Fudanshi Bartender’.

Hibiki is first introduced on the screen as he smoothly puts on his apron. We see a glimpse of his tea on the table. His beautiful eyes are shown as he fixes his glasses. The atmosphere is calm and serene like his aura. But that immediately changes when Hibiki sits down and looks at a tweet to his Yaoi tweet. The commenter is ecstatic about his work, saying that he is looking forward to what will happen next in the series because the couple are agonizing but adorable. The commenter adds that he is already rooting for the characters because he knows they are secretly in love with each other.

Hibiki seems to be so pleased with this and immediately types his thanks. However, his boss comes in and apologizes for disturbing him. Hibiki just charmingly smiles, looking adorable in his glasses.

In the bar, Hibiki showcases his amazing skills in concocting drinks for his patrons. He takes pride in his abilities as a bartender and says in the voiceover that he believes that providing customer service is a skill he has perfected in his belt. However, he adds in the end that besides this amazing part of his life, there is a secret about him that he hasn’t told anyone.

Two women are shown fawning over his looks and bartending skills. One of the girls, coyly asks how he learned how to bartend. Hibiki politely replies that he taught himself. She catches his short reply and says that he is the mysterious type that she likes. She adds that they don’t know much about him. The other girl speaks up and asks what his hobbies are. Hibiki is quick to his feet and replies that he records events that happen in the bar. The girl, who seems eager, asks again what he does on his day off to which he replies he watches the recordings of shows he missed during his work days. The two are not amused and satisfied by his answer. Hibiki senses this and replies that he enjoys shopping. The girls bite this answer and start fawning over him once again, saying that he’s so romantic. Hibiki looks satisfied as he has the girls convinced that what he does is definitely not out of the norm.

The scene cuts to a montage and in a 360-degree turn of events, Hibiki’s true nature is revealed. So different from his calm and collected appearance at the bar, Hibiki is now seen in his room decorated with BL manga characters. He maniacally draws and gushes over his characters which are revealed to be based on the customers he observes in the bar. He opens his TV to watch BL anime. It cuts again to him looking at his vast collection of Yaoi memorabilia, mentioning that he only buys merch of his ult BL Biases and kisses one of the posters.

Back at the bar, he is again seen as sophisticated. He reminds himself that no matter what, he will never let anyone know that he is a true committed fudanshi.

The staff consists of Haku, the manager, Hokuto, a part-time bartender, and Hibiki are doing the last-minute preparations in the bar. Hokuto tastes the raisin butter and exclaims that it is a very popular item. Hibiki agrees, adding that it is a classic dessert ordered by many customers. Haku asks Hokuto if the dessert comes from Hokuto to which she agrees. Hibiki describes Hokuto as someone who is thorough with her work and has a talent for making food. However, She enjoys being looked down on by Hibiki which he finds a little bit weird. Haku tells them he will be giving them bonuses because of their hard work. Out of excitement, Hokuto splashes water all over Hibiki. Hibiki gets irritated at her which excites Hokuto. Hibiki says she is clumsy and weird. Haku tells him to change which he does.

Inside the backroom, Hibiki’s amazing body is revealed. However, he says that he is exhausted and their shift hasn’t even started. He feels a bit sad, saying that without consuming BL, he doubts he could make it through the night. Haku walks in and Hibiki suddenly feels flustered. In his mind, he realizes that his boss has potential in the looks department. Unaware, Haku asks how many cups they usually order since they are running out. Hibiki says a million without thinking which surprised the manager. Hibiki is already thinking of 100 different ways he can use Haku in his BL plotlines. The manager notices Hibiki’s change of behavior and asks if he is okay. Hibiki replies that he is just surprised to see him in his regular clothing. The manager, all smiles, apologizes that he is seeing this silly part of him. Inside, Hibiki rejoices as he is sure that his boss is an UKE (a bottom). In silent contemplation, he tries to map out in his head who will be the next Romeo to this newly found Romeo. But, unexpectedly Hokuto comes in to ask if Hibiki’s okay. Still, in his BL headspace, Hibiki makes the decision that he needs another concrete inspiration and recommends to his manager to hire another employee. Thinking that this decision was made because of his employees’ exhaustion, the manager severely apologizes for overworking the employees.

Outside, two customers arrive who are so dashing that Hibiki suddenly kneels on the floor to thank God for a bounty of new BL thirst ideas. It turns out that they are old patrons of the bar, Yamazaki and Mr. Torri who is Yamazaki’s boss. Both have not come back to the bar in a while. They are Hibiki’s favorite “couple” and it’s shown through flashbacks how he’s been miserable in their absence because his BL manga based on them has been paused for a while. He felt so disappointed whenever his fave characters didn’t come.

Now that they are here, he feels energetic and elated again. He quietly observes as Mr. Torri scrunches Yamazaki’s head, praising him for a job well done. Yamazaki tells him to stop treating him as a kid. Torri says that he will give him a nice reward instead. This interaction propels Hibiki’s fudanshi heart to burst. He bites his lip so hard it bleeds. He tells his manager that he’s bleeding from a bad tooth.

He hears their order and starts to sophistically make their drinks. In his mind, as he pours one drink to the next, he’s already imagining Mr. Torri and Yamazaki enjoying their Screwdriver and Gin Rickey in more suggestive ways than one. Back to reality, Mr. Torri tells Yamazaki that he’s getting used to drinking now to which Yamazaki replies that Mr. Torri’s the one that takes him to various bars, emphasizing that he should treat him as a kid anymore. In Hibiki’s dirty mind, Mr. Torri raises his eyebrows and adds that he is indeed the one who turned him into an adult. Time passes and Yamazaki falls asleep on Mr. Torri’s shoulder out of exhaustion. Mr. Torri tells him to let him sleep. Hibiki is exploding in giddiness inside.

Meanwhile, Haku sees that someone already applied for the bartender position. Back at the bar, Yamazaki wakes up but not without Hibiki’s dirty thoughts already running 500 scenarios of what could happen afterward. Mr. Torri feels Yamazaki waking up and requests the check. Hibiki is so happy with how his night is turning out that Hokuto notices that he has cut too many lemons and tells him this. Hibiki only tells her to stop talking to him, squeezing many lemons into her eyes. She enjoys this nonetheless.

A new night comes to the bar and the fresh blood, Chita, comes in. Hibiki sees him and whispers that it is party time. Hokuto, out of nowhere, asks the new guy if he has abs and the new kid shows it. Turns out, he does! Hibiki smacks her head but tells her she did a good job by asking.

Now open for the night, Hibiki is explaining a type of whiskey to a couple. After, Hibiki observes the new hire. He wonders how someone sporty but has a bubbly exterior would choose to work at a place like this. He thinks however that he would be a good top for his bottom manager. However, Chita adorably slips on the floor. Hibiki realizes that Chita is a bottom too. With the new revelation, he is determined to find both of them a top.

Haku announces that he has a friend coming tonight and asks his team if they can take care of the bar tonight. Hibiki says that it isn’t busy so they can handle it. The three wonder what type of person the friend could be. But alas, the suspense is not prolonged as a beautiful muscular man comes into their bar for “ Hakuchan”. Best believe Hibiki almost explodes in excitement!
