It looks like the film adaptation of the popular queer novel ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ will be faithful to its base book!
On May 8, the Motion Picture Association of America gave ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ an R-rating, which means it will contain “language, some sexual content, and partial nudity.”
The film’s R-rating is actually good news for fans for two main reasons. One, it hints that the film is likely to follow the novel closely. And two, who does not want to see in the picture what the book made us imagine, right? To begin with, the book does give us a number of steamy scenes. The main characters, Alex and Henry, are young adults with raging hormones, and McQuiston was generous with the sex scenes, albeit muted and not pornographically detailed.
‘Red, White & Royal Blue’, originally a 2019 novel by Casey McQuiston, follows the star-crossed rivals-to-lovers story of Alex Claremont-Diaz, First Son of the President of the United States, and Henry, Prince of England and third in line to the throne. With highly public lives, the two try to navigate the challenges of self-discovery while keeping their romance a secret, especially when Alex’s mother, the first female President of the United States, is up for reelection.
