LOOK: Lily Gladstone’s Next Queer Project ‘Fancy Dance’ Drops Official Poster

‘Fancy Dance’ is a family drama and crime thriller about two women on the Seneca-Cayuga Reservation in Oklahoma who set out to search for their family member who disappeared. Gladstone plays Jax, a queer woman who kidnaps her niece, Roki (played by Deroy-Olson) and helps her get ready for an upcoming powwow, an American Indian celebration in which people from various indigenous nations gather for to dance sing, and honor the traditions of their ancestors.

The movie has premiered at the Sundance and will also star Ryan Begay, Shea Whigham, Crystle Lightning, and Audrey Wasilewski.

‘Fancy Dance’ is the directorial debut from the queer Native Oklahoman filmmaker Erica Tremblay who also co-wrote it. Tremblay told Outfest in an interview that she knew she wanted to work with Gladstone the first time she saw her in ‘Certain Women’.

“There was just so much about them that shone through. Lily’s face can tell a magnitude of emotions with just one glance. And I remember being like ‘I have to work with this person. I have to find a way to this human.’”

‘Fancy Dance’ will be playing in select theaters on June 21 and streaming on Apple TV+ starting June 28.
