When the two actors starring in a short film titled ‘The Virgins‘ fail at the last minute, a young director will have to act alongside the only other person who knows the script by heart: the boom operator.
The film starts with a young man, Enzo, on his knees screaming at someone who has done something. He calms for a moment and assures the other man, Leo, that everything will be fine. He promises that he will never leave him. He starts to say something but cuts himself off, saying he can’t do it. A voice breaks the moment to yell “Cut!” and it is revealed that the scene was for a shoot and that his co-star, Victor, who is supposed to play Leo is missing.
Enzo throws a fit which causes the director to butt heads with him. Enzo threatens to leave if Victor does not come within five minutes. The director, Marco, suggests someone else can fill in for him but Enzo remains unconvinced. A staff approaches them with a phone in his hand and says he has Victor on the line. The staff relayed Victor’s message that he wouldn’t be available for three days because he got involved in an accident. The two scoff in disbelief until Enzo stops laughing and storms out of the set.
The director, out of options, starts to learn the lines. He asks the crew if anybody knows the script by heart. Someone raises his hand.
Eloi, the soundman, gets prepped by the hair and makeup team. While on the chair, Marco approaches him, introduces himself formally, and asks if he has any doubts. Before they could start shooting though, Eloi stops Marco and grabs the lapel mic on Marco’s waist to check if it’s working properly. Marco regards him with a look and they start filming.
The two-act out a scene where Marco cradles a bloodied Eloi. Marco tells Eloi that it was a good take and the crew pack up to transfer to a different filming site– a field outside that screams romance and drama. On the way, Eloi tells Marco that the script is a bit intense which Marco agrees with. Marco confirms that he wrote the script and expresses his curiosity at how Eloi memorized the lines by heart. Eloi starts to answer that he hasn’t learned all of them but gets cut off by a staffer. Marco hands Eloi a helmet. They start filming again.
Eloi is wearing the helmet and is holding a rose. Marco and Eloi’s characters promise never to let each other go.
After filming, the two monitor their performance when Marco notices that Eloi’s eyes are closed as they watch the reel. Eloi confesses that he watched horror movies with his eyes closed as a kid and eventually kept the habit. Marco asks about the benefits of doing such a thing and Eloi says that you hear everything differently. Eloi asks Marco to try it and puts the headphones on him. Marco closes his eyes and listens to their characters profess their love for each other. Eloi puts his hand over Marco’s eyes and lips next when he starts to speak.
The two start bonding and spending more time conversing which turns flirty. Eloi says he enjoys being an actor as he sucks on a lollipop. Marco takes the candy and puts it in his mouth before walking away.
Later, when they’re lounging under the shade of a tree, Eloi asks if Marco is enjoying himself being an actor. Marco says it’s a script requirement and Eloi asks if he enjoys being a director. Marco confesses that he’s not sure because there are days when he feels like he should continue working in the supermarket where he used to work but some days, he feels like he’s doing the most beautiful job in the world. Eloi asks what day it is for him today. Marco does not answer.
