Queer Film ‘Challengers’ Gears Up for Big Screen Debut This April

Luca Guadagnino’s ‘Challengers’ is one of the most anticipated queer movies of 2024—and for good reason!

With its star-studded cast top-billed by Zendaya and rising stars Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, it is set to debut on the big screen worldwide on April 26 after its delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA Strike.

Zendaya revealed the new promotional poster of the film on her Instagram where Tashi (Zendaya), a retired tennis player turned coach, looms over her husband, Art (Faist), and ex-boyfriend, Patrick (O’Connor), tennis match. True to what we know so far about the film, there seemingly is a steamy and electric romance (even a tease of polyamory!) among the titular characters.

‘Challengers’ is Luca Guadagnino’s comeback after his critically acclaimed ‘Bones and All’ in 2022. Guadagnino is not new to queer storytelling as he also directed the 2017 queer romantic coming-of-age drama, ‘Call Me by Your Name’. The upcoming film received an “R” Rating from the Motion Pictures Association (MPA) “for language throughout, some sexual content and graphic nudity.”
