Since Pixar’s ‘Luca’ came out in 2021, queer people have speculated about its queerness, with many fans believing that the film’s themes revolve around gayness. But three years later, the confirmation has finally come out (pun intended): ‘Luca’ is actually and supposedly gay!
‘Luca’ tells the story of a young sea monster, Luca, who gets drawn to the human world. He then meets Alberto, another sea monster who has been secretly living on land. They become close friends, and when Luca’s parents learn about their son’s adventure, they try to send him to “The Deep” which is supposed to change his mind and perception about humans. But the desire to be on land was so strong that Luca and Alberto tried to run away together.
Kenna Jean Harris, the lead story artist of the film and the writer-director of its short-film sequel ‘Ciao, Alberto’, revealed romantic version sketches of the two main characters, Luca and Alberto.
Harris, who goes by they/them pronouns, shared “Luberto” (as how the pair is fondly called by fans) sketches on their story with the caption, “We’re busting out the big guns.”
