New posters of the upcoming Filipino drama film ‘Your Mother’s Son’ were released last April 10 in anticipation of its Philippine premiere in the 2024 IdeaFirst Film Festival.
The stunning posters, created by artist Justin Besana, perfectly encapsulate the tone of its premise: sensual, carnal, intimate.
The film stars Kokoy De Santos, Miggy Jimenez, Elora Espano, and Sue Prado in a story that explores the complicated relationship between a hardworking mother and her delinquent son that is challenged when the mother brings home one of her students. Revealed to address the issue of her son’s alleged Oedipus complex, the film unravels a deeper more complex, and shocking tale of abuse of power and sexual dynamics.
Its queer director, Jun Lana, admitted in an interview that the film initially earned an X-rating classification from the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) which obligated the director to remove certain scenes from its first original cut that, eventually, earned it its R-18 classification.
“I wanted to do a lot of things in the film, but my producers advised me to just keep quiet than risk being banned from getting released in theatres” Lana shared in an interview.
The original cut however was shown during its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival last September.
