Iti Mapukpukaw

‘Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)’ has finally revealed its official trailer.

Project 8 Projects unveiled the intriguing trailer for the queer animated film on a Facebook post on Monday, July 31, with the caption, “ITI MAPUKPUKAW (THE MISSING) TRAILER IS HERE 🛸 After over a year of development and seven months of animation, our youth-led production team and over 90 Filipino animators proudly present Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing).”

“The film is a Filipino-Ilocano animation that follows Eric’s life as it twists and turns after the arrival of a familiar alien and the death of his uncle, which both trigger Eric to remember his past and untangle his memories,” the caption said.

The trailer shows Eric (played by award-winning actor Carlo Aquino), a mouthless young man who untangles memories from his childhood in the wake of his uncle’s death. Eric meets an alien who wants to abduct him from Earth and tells him the alien left his power in Eric which makes him the destined ruler of the planet.

“Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)” is produced by Project 8 Projects, supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines, CreatePH Films, and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts. It is co-produced by GMA Integrated News and Public Affairs and Terminal Six Post. “Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)” is also a grantee of one of the most prestigious film funding programs, Purin Pictures.

‘Iti Mapukpukaw (The Missing)’ is touted as the first of its kind and is the first rotoscope animated film that will screen at the 2023 Cinemalaya Independent Philippine Film Festival from August 4 to August 13.
