A US documentary about New York City’s Meatpacking District told from the perspective of transgender sex workers will stream on HBO Original in June!
‘The Stroll’ tells the history of the historic Meatpacking District as told by transgender women of color who basically created its story. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last January 23, and HBO aims to launch it on June 21.
The Sundance Film Festival describes its synopsis: “The now corporate, flush façade of the neighborhood was plastered over the world of transgender sex workers who lived, worked, loved, and died there. “The Stroll” was where trans women of color, shunned out of the workforce, turned to for a means of survival. Their perspective and insights constitute a rigorous archive of how heavy policing, violence both threatened and realized, and mass gentrification combined to create Manhattan’s built environment today. “
‘The Stroll’ was directed by Kristen Lovell and Zackary Drucker. It received positive reviews from critics. As of writing time, it has a 96% rating with 25 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
