Yes, it is confirmed — there will be a gay character in the upcoming ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’!
In an interview with Dorkaholics, writers Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden revealed that Pedro Peña, one of the superheroes who join Shazam, is gay. Pedro Peña is played by Jovan Armand (child) and D. J. Cotrona (adult).
“The only new addition for this movie is being a lot more forthright about Pedro being gay. And that was hinted at in the first movie very subtly,” Gayden told Dorkaholics. He added that it was really “important” and that they really wanted to “[bring] that to the fore” of the movie.
It is still unclear how this element will be incorporated into Pedro’s character and the overall story, but it is worth noting and remembering as ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ will come out on March 17.
‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ will see the return of Billy Baston (Asher Angel), still with his power that allows him to turn into superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi), to fight a new enemy.
