The Middle East’s short film ‘Shall I Compare You to a Summer’s Day?‘ is now streaming on GagaOOLala!

‘Shall I Compare You to a Summer’s Day?’ is a full-length movie that was released last year. It stars Donia Massoud, Ahmed El Gendy, and Nadim Bahsoun and is directed by Mohammad Shawky Hassan. The movie is an official selection in the 2022 Berlin International Film Festival, and the 2022 Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival. It earns flawless scores on Rotten Tomatoes as critics unanimously praised the film for its creative, unique, and provocative nature.

The movie is a contemporary queer musical inspired by Arab folktales and Egyptian pop music. Told in the style of “One Thousand and One Nights,” the story follows Shahrazad as she shares personal love stories with ghosts of former lovers. Through the use of traditional storytelling techniques and classical Arabic language, the intricate layers of each tale gradually unfold.
