Queer Inclusive ‘WandaVision’ Spin-Off Changes Name, Premiere Date

Agatha

Disney’s queer-inclusive Agatha Harkness spinoff of the hit Marvel series ‘WandaVision’ has changed its name once again and has gotten a new release date.

The much-awaited series, which wrapped production earlier this year, was reported to be delayed from the winter of 2023 all the way to early fall 2024, in response to the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.

The spin-off which will feature Aubrey Plaza’s (possibly queer) witch, and gay actor Joe Locke has also been retitled ‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.’ This is the third different name the show has had, starting as ‘Agatha: House of Harkness,’ and then becoming ‘Coven of Chaos.’

The Hollywood Reporter said that the writers’ strike which began May 2 while the actors went on strike July 14, “significantly impacting production and development.” Furthermore, it has been reported that Marvel “wants to focus its efforts on making each title an event for fans and audiences.”

Marvel Studios also announced that it would be shuffling several of its other shows, which could have possibly affected the release date of the WandaVision spin-off.

‘Agatha: Darkhold Diaries’ boasts Kathryn Hahn as the lead star in her character as the powerful villain witch Agatha Harkness from ‘WandaVision.’ She will also be joined by ‘Heartstopper’ gay actor Locke, Plaza, the legendary Patti LuPone, Sasheer Zamata, and Ali Ahan.

Since his casting, Locke has been rumored to play the teenage version of Wanda and Vision’s gay son Billy, also known by his superhero name Wiccan. Both Billy and his brother Tommy were first introduced to fans in the first series as babies who aged up to preteens in a snap, thanks to their inherited powers from their parents.

Aside from Locke, rumor has it that Plaza’s character will be Agatha’s ex-girlfriend, which means this could end up being the queerest MCU project ever.
