Netflix’s Spanish teen drama ‘Élite’ will be ending after its eighth season.
Netflix announced on Twitter on Wednesday, October 18, that the queer-inclusive series will be renewed for its eighth and last season while the seventh season of the drama premieres on Friday.
Show creator Carlos Montero further confirmed the news during a press conference, saying they “ended on a high note” and that Jaime Vaca (co-showrunner for Season 7), Netflix, and Montero thought it was time to end it.
Monetro also expressed his gratefulness for the years he met such wonderful actors and directors.
“‘Élite’ changed everyone’s life, there are actors who started with us and it has been their springboard to be now world stars, it is happening to this cast and it is a pride to have contributed to that and to know that they have seen us all over the world and liked it,” he said.
‘Élite’ is Netflix Spain’s longest-running fictional series and it follows a group of working-class students at an elite high school and their relationships with their wealthier classmates. It is also known for its inclusion of queer teens, specifically Omar (played by Omar Ayuso) and Ander (played by Arón Piper), two students who formed a relationship in the first three seasons. Piper has since left the show but Ayuso will be returning for the seventh season.
