Gay short film ‘Strange Way of Life’ starring Pedro Pascal and Ethan Hawke will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this May 2023!
‘Strange Way of Life’ tells the story of two men, Silva (Pascal) and Sheriff Jake (Hawke), who meet again after 25 years. Jake then tells Silva that there is more to their reunion than just revisiting their friendship. Almodovar described ‘Strange Way of Life’ as “a queer western in the sense that there are two men, and they love each other, and they behave in that situation in an opposite way.”
In an interview with Insider, Pascal said that he was thrilled to work with director Pedro Almodovar, who also is the upcoming film’s screenwriter, as Almodovar “opened up an entire world of storytelling, color, culture, rebellion, and sexuality that was just absolutely intoxicating, dangerous, hilarious, heartbreaking, and encompassing the whole spectrum.”
Pascal added that filming ‘Strange Way of Life’ was “challenging, but it was more fun than anything else because of how delicious the scripts are, the characters, the creators, the team, putting it all together.” He said that shooting it with the cultural environment of Canada felt like everything “fell into line with one another.”
As for working with Hawke, Pascal described it as “really an incredible opportunity to go, learn, and to enjoy the experience of being on the level of people like [Hawke].”
‘Strange Way of Life’ will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival which will run from May 16 to 27, 2023.
