A new biopic about the legendary James Dean, arguably one of the hottest and most sought-after actors in the history of Hollywood, will explore the alleged gay romance he had in his career!
Titled “Surviving James Dean” and written and directed by gay film producer Guy Guido, the biopic will be based on the 2006 memoir by the late William Bast of the same title.
Guido acquired the rights to the said memoir and has already looked for potential producers and cast. The announcement was made on September 30, the 69th anniversary of Dean’s passing.
Bast, who passed away in 2015, revealed in his memoir that he met James Dean at 19 during a UCLA theater program, where they became roommates, close friends, and later, lovers. Bast noted that they kept their relationship private to safeguard Dean’s career, while Dean also maintained relationships with female stars. Tragically, five years after their initial meeting, in 1955, Dean was killed in a car accident.
Guido, who has already written the script for the biopic, frames the film from Bast and Dean’s first meeting to the actor’s untimely death. The movie will also explore how the couple navigated their relationship in the challenging 1950s, while Bast grappled with his own sexuality.
