After the controversial reveal of Matt Bomer’s supposed ‘Superman: Legacy’ gig, we are happy to report that Matt Bomer is going nowhere but your TV screens (playing a gorgeous gay character as a matter of fact!)
Variety revealed that the ‘Fellow Travelers’ lead is starring in a shinier and more boisterous sitcom ‘Mid-Century Modern’ as gay besties with Nathan Lane (‘Only Murders in the Building’) that is akin to the much-loved and missed ‘Golden Girls’!
Set in Palm Springs California, Bomer will portray Jerry Frank (the show’s version of Rose played by Betty White), a former Mormon who left his Church after getting outed as a homosexual by his ex-wife. Post-church divorce, Jerry is now a latter-day saint (literally) who is pure of heart, hard of body, and soft of head. On the flip side, Lane will take on the role of Bunny Schneiderman, a well-off businessman on the precipice of retiring. Ill-equipped and low on self-esteem when it comes to all, Bunny fights his impostor syndrome to find the one thing he doesn’t have- love.
Meanwhile, actress Linda Lavin is also attached to play Bunny’s mother Sybil who has the wise, caring, and iconoclastic characteristics of Sophia of ‘Golden Girls’.
The show is to be produced by Ryan Murphy well known for this queer hits such as ‘Pose’, ‘Glee’, and ‘American Horror Story’ while queer comedy classic ‘Will & Grace’ writers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan are boarded in to write.
