Kit Connor has nothing but praise for Heartstopper as it matures in its third season (which, by the way, is already out), especially in the way it handles the subject of sex.
Connor plays Nick Nelson, the boyfriend of Charlie Spring (played by Joe Locke), who are both the show’s main characters. Based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic of the same name, the first season premiered in 2022. As the story progresses, the show also has to “grow up,” meaning the characters must become more intimate.
Speaking about this intimacy, Connor said the show’s approach to sex is handled in “a very Heartstopper way.” In an interview with Radio Times, he explained, “The focus is on the difficulties of knowing when you’re ready and what it means to be a young queer person.”
“There isn’t as much representation in the industry of queer sex and often it’s represented as being much more advanced and very highly sexualized. This is really sweet and tender,” he continued.
