This popular series is the latest target of conservative groups’ attacks in the United States. Alice Oseman’s widely popular ‘Heartstopper’ franchise, which consists of the live-action Netflix series and the graphic novels that served as the basis for it along with some other related media taking place in the same universe, has found itself in a precarious position as of late.
Specifically, the trouble is in public libraries in certain US states where some have clamored for access to literature such as ‘Heartstopper’ to be restricted as they view its LGBT content as inappropriate for younger audiences. The latest incidence of this is in the Columbia-Marion County Public Library, as reported by American news site Mississippi Free Press. This is not the first time, however, that ‘Heartsopper’ has been subject to such events, however. Earlier this year, ‘Heartstopper’ was included in a list of books banned by the Clay County school district along with multiple other books that discuss LGBT-related topics or include LGBT characters, as stated by LGBT News Site Pink News.
