Singaporean Gay BL ‘Getaway’ is coming to GagaOOLala!

‘Getaway‘ is a five-episode web drama series produced by Dear Straight People that was released in 2020. It is based on an original story from a gay creator and features a gay director along with openly queer actors from Singapore and Thailand. The web drama stars Sean Foo, Steven David Lim, and Paween Snooker Nalieng and is directed by Saroj Kunatanad.

In addition, the show aims to raise visibility, understanding, and acceptance of Singapore’s LGBTQ+ community by chronicling the highs and lows of Singaporean Sam’s life after his coming out to his conservative father goes horribly wrong.

OFFICIAL SYNOPSIS: After his coming out goes horribly wrong, Singaporean Sam jets off to Bangkok to search for his exiled gay uncle, where he stumbles upon Top, a charismatic party boy looking for love in all the wrong places.

‘Getaway‘ premieres on September 28th at midnight GMT+8 on GagaOOlala’s app and website and is also available now on your Smart TV.

On the other hand, the production has also launched a crowd-funding campaign for its upcoming sequel. They also share some storylines that they hope to explore and other things to look forward to in the second season:

The continuation of Top and Sam’s story
Sam’s relationship with his dad as they both navigate the aftermath of Sam’s coming out
Bumping up Hirzi’s character to be one of the leads!
There is a lack of positive gay Malay media representation, and having a Malay lead in a gay BL drama series would be such a powerful statement in itself.
Longer episodes of roughly 20 minutes per episode
Raise visibility, understanding, and acceptance of Singapore’s LGBTQ+ community.
Hirzi has tentatively agreed to co-write the 2nd season, so expect an even funnier 2nd season (He won ‘Best Comedy Performance’ at the 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards).
