Gay Historical Drama ‘Fellow Travelers’ Announces Premiere Date

Showtime has announced the premiere date of its highly-anticipated gay historical drama ‘Fellow Travelers’ starring Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, Jelani Alladin, Noah J. Rickets, and Allison Williams.

It has been revealed that the eight-episode drama will premiere on Paramount+ with Showtime on October 27.

The series is created by American screenwriter and Oscar nominee Ron Nyswaner (Philadelphia, Smithereens). It is based on the novel of the same name by Thomas Mallon and is described as “an epic love story and political thriller, chronicling the clandestine romance of two very different men who meet in McCarthy-era Washington.”

‘Fellow Travelers’ tells the story of Hawkins Fuller (Bomer) a man enjoying a successful behind-the-scenes career in politics who for the longest time has avoided romance until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey) the idealistic and religious young man who will change his life. They fall in love and begin an affair just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants.”

Their story will span four decades, from the Vietnam War protests to the hedonistic culture of the 1970s and the AIDS crisis of the 1980s. It will include the Lavender Scare, during which thousands of queer people lost their jobs and hundreds ended their lives.

Bomer and Bailey are said to have filmed intimate scenes with Bailey describing iit as “a meticulous examination of power” while Bomer added, “There’s a level of trust and intimacy that’s even more valuable when society is against you. You keep your secrets together.”

Both Bailey and Bomer identify as gay.
