‘Drag Race’ season six finalist and American Idol alum Adore Delano has come out as trans in an emotional video.
In a heartwarming Instagram video posted on Wednesday, Delano addressed the “questions” about her body and proudly said that she has been transitioning privately for the past few months which she likened to “going through puberty.”
“I have found it has been very enlightening and probably the happiest in my adult life,” she said.
The 33-year-old singer explained that she went sober two years ago in order to “deal with my feelings” as she went “from dysphoria to euphoria.”
Delano then reflected on her childhood experience, recalling that she initially came out as bisexual at 12 and presented as a girl all throughout high school before finally coming out as transgender to her mother who supported her.
However, Delano stated that she suppressed herself when the opportunity to participate in ‘American Idol’ came.
“I threw it away. I burned it. I reinvented myself into something that was so uncomfortable – it was almost like a sacrifice to get everything I wanted and it almost made sense to myself as a 16-year-old. And then I got on the show and then carried on the storyline to Drag Race,” she said.
