Queer shows are already winning as a plethora of them received nominations for the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards, led by ‘Fire Island’, ‘The Last of Us’, and ‘Drag Race’.
In a live ceremony last July 12, the nominees were revealed.
HBO’s zombie apocalyptic series ‘The Last of Us’ received nominations for Best Drama, Best Actor – Drama (Pedro Pascal), Best Actress – Drama (Bella Ramsey), Best Writing – Drama, and Best Directing – Drama. It also received the Outstanding Guest Actor – Drama and Outstanding Guest Actress – Drama nominations at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
‘The Last of Us’ was highly praised, especially for its emotional and hard-hitting queer storyline in its third episode featuring Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman.
‘Fire Island’, on the other hand, received nominations for Best Television Movie and Best Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Joel Kim Booster). It follows the story of two queer best friends as they take a weeklong vacation to the popular gay hotspot.
‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ received nominations for Best Reality Competition, Best Unstructured Reality Program, and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program (RuPaul).
