Filipino actor and internet personality John Kennedy Nakar passed away at the age of 24 due to complications of leukemia.
Nakar starred as Caloy in the 2020 Filipino BL series ‘Lakan.’ He was also slated to lead another BL series, ‘Turbulence’, also with his boyfriend Cervantes.
Nakar’s boyfriend and ‘Lakan’ co-star, Paul Cervantes, confirmed the actor’s death on Wednesday, July 26, when he shared a video of Nakar’s wake.
“Baby, you looked sad a while ago because we know that you want to have a beautiful garden someday,” Cervantes said in his caption originally written in Filipino. “Here you go. I hope you’re happy watching us from above. We love you so much. We will never forget you.”
Although the exact date of Nakar’s date has not been disclosed, Cervantes appeared to have been in distress since July 25 through his Facebook posts. In one of his posts, Cervantes said, “Baby, I am already home. Just waiting for you here,” with a crying face emoji.
Nakar disclosed through Facebook in a post last June that he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He was admitted on June 3, and several tests were made when his blood chemical tests showed abnormal results. On June 10, his diagnosis was out. “The result of my bone marrow has been released, and yes, I’ve been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, a very rare but aggressive one,” he said in his post. “My hematologist doctor said chemotherapy is the only way to treat this and must be done as soon as possible.”
