Filipino actor Ken Chan recently revealed that he almost never got the main role in the 2015 transgender series ‘Destiny Rose’.
On the talk show ‘Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,’ Chan recalled that he had to beg so he could audition for ‘Destiny Rose’.
“I asked if they could reopen the audition. Because it was finished. I think they already chose someone for the role. I know they had someone already so I begged GMA 7 (the network), ‘Please, if I could try, if you could open the audition again’,” he said. He was told that if the audition would be opened again, they would have to inform the other actors. At that point, Chan had felt resigned, but then he received a call and said that he could audition.
On the day of the audition, Chan’s makeup artist asked if he was okay with shaving his eyebrows, but he hesitated for a second. “I was doing another show,” he said. “So I was worried about the continuity. I thought I could get in trouble for it, but I told the makeup artist, ‘Go ahead. We might just land this role.’”
And he did. ‘Destiny Rose’ aired in 2015, and in April 2023, it was brought to Thailand by Anne Jakrajutatip, the owner of Miss Universe.
