‘Disenchantment’ Gets A Happy, Sapphic Ending For Its Last Season

Animated sitcom ‘Disenchantment’ gets the beautiful and happy sapphic ending it deserves, and fans are —unsurprisingly — rejoicing!

The Netflix animated fantasy series has finally ended with five seasons, and sapphics are rejoicing that the main character Princess Bean had a happy ending with Mora the Mermaid.

‘Disenchantment’ is set in a medieval kingdom called Dreamland and tells the story of an adventurous and rebellious bisexual princess named Bean, her “personal demon” Luci, and Elfo, an elf companion. Bean’s voice actor, Abbi Jacobson, is also queer and identifies as pansexual.

In the fifth and final season, it picked up where it left off in the fourth season when Mora the Mermaid rescued Bean after her evil mother Queen Dagmar dumped her into the ocean. The final season then focused mainly on how Bean could defeat Dagmar and save Dreamland from her evil plans.

Mora the Mermaid was first introduced in the third season, while Bean was revealed to be bisexual in the second season.

The final season received mixed reviews because of its pacing and writing, but it also received praise — especially from fans — when it gave Bean and Mora a happy, sapphic ending, considering that sapphics do not usually receive a happy ending on television.

Nevertheless, the ending for ‘Disenchantment’ provided a nice break, and it is not surprising that fans were thrilled and overjoyed when Bean and Mora kissed and eloped together on a tropical island.

‘Disenchantment’ first aired on August 17, 2018, and the final season was released on September 1, 2023. All seasons have 10 episodes each. It currently streams on Netflix.
