Choosing Friendship Over Desire in Khmer BL Film ‘Boy Bestfriend’

From the same production team as ’24/25 My Love Girlfriend’ and ’The Scar’, Sastra Film unveiled their first BL to release this year, ‘Boy Bestfriend’.‘Boy Bestfriend’, a 38-minute Khmer BL film, explores the ideas of friendship and desire between the two teenagers. Bun Chanty, director and screenwriter, is in charge of the short film, which stars Bu Chantra and Tri Chhaili as Chen and Thi, along with Yin Srey Pov.

The story follows Chen and Thi, both 19 years old, who have formed a strong and emotional bond over time. They share secrets, dreams, and moments of delight and sadness, forging a friendship that seems unshakable. However, beyond the surface of their platonic relationship, Chen has unrequited affection for Thi. He finds himself drawn to Thi in ways he can’t quite understand, his heart skipping a beat whenever he grins or laughs.

However, Chen is hesitant to act on his romantic feelings. He is afraid that revealing his feelings will damage the excellent connection they have formed together. Chen appreciates Thi’s trust and friendship beyond all else, and the prospect of jeopardizing that bond fills him with anxiety.

Despite his strong desire to confess his love, Chen conceals his feelings and buries them deep inside his heart. He convinces himself that it is preferable to suffer silently than to risk ruining all they have. So he continues to value their friendship, cherishing every moment they spend together but secretly yearning for more. But when Thi uncovers his secret, what fate awaits their enduring friendship?
