If there is one thing Alice Oseman assured the fans in regard to Nick and Charlie in her bestselling graphic novel series ‘Heartstopper’, it is that she’s never going to “bury the gays.”
In an interview with Attitude Magazine, Oseman — who was named the Attitude 101 Person of the Year — said that she has “known for ages how Heartstopper is going to end.” She furthered that it was helpful to have an endpoint to build towards. Without spoiling anything ahead of the fifth and final volume of ‘Heartstopper’ which is set to be released by November this year, Oseman said that it is going to be a happy ending. “I feel like everyone knows that,” she added.
When asked if she would want to explore the characters’ stories as adults “in a more comprehensive format,” she said, “I think never say never. I don’t know what I’ll do after the main Heartstopper books are finished. I’m sure I’ll still continue to draw Nick and Charlie in some way.”
While the possibilities are endless for the future of Heartstopper — or its characters at least — Oseman dashed the hopes of fans for its own expanded “cinematic universe.” She said that she doesn’t want it to become a franchise and to “make things just to make money.” The integrity of the story, she added, is really important to her.
