‘My School President’ Fan Meeting in Hong Kong Embroiled In Controversies?

My School President

Things went south for fans of ‘My School President’ in Hong Kong last August 12. The cast of ‘My School President’ held the last of their fan meetings in Hong Kong after traveling to various places such as Singapore, Cambodia, and the Philippines among others. However, many fans who attended this last fan meeting left disappointed due to events concerning the fan benefits, specifically the photo op.

As seen in the official post from GMMTV, the fan meeting had 3 tiers priced at 1480 HKD, 1280 HKD, and 880 HKD. The original announcement indicated that 180 people from the highest tier would get a 6:9 group photo, 300 people from the middle tier would get a 15:9 group photo, and 520 people from the lowest tier would receive a 20:9 group photo. However, this was later changed to all members of the lowest tier getting the photo op. The attendees from the higher tiers then tried to negotiate for a photo op as they paid more and felt that it was unfair that the tier that paid less than them had more benefits. They were then told to wait at the venue as the organizers would try to see what could be arranged regarding this. However, after an hour of waiting, the attendees found out that the cast of ‘My School President’ as well as the event’s organizers had already left and the security at the venue simply explained to them where to direct their complaints, as explained by Twitter user @winniebrighttie in the thread below.

Fans were also told that less than 180 people from the highest tier and 300 people from the middle tier would receive the photo op as the number would instead be based on the proportion to the number of tickets sold, but due to the attendees raising their concerns regarding this, the final list of people who could join the photo op did match the numbers initially promised.

Another attendee, Twitter user @praninlovee_ uploaded a video of the fans waiting at the venue.

The same Twitter user shared with BLTai that the fan meeting also had other issues such as some fans buying two tickets in order to experience the hi-touch fan benefit twice, but was not allowed to by the event personnel as well as the translator during the event not translating most of what the cast of ‘My School President’ was saying while also having multiple inaccurate translations. The sentiment among many fans who attended is that they wished they had just been told directly that no photo op would be given to them instead of being given false hope and waiting for something that would not arrive.

It also seems that the fans were not the only ones who left the venue disappointed as Gemini Norawit, who played the titular school president, Tinn Tinnaphob, in the series, made a Tweet following the event reminding people that his name is Gemini and not Phuwin.

This is in reference to a popular joke among Thai BL fans who say Gemini looks like his fellow GMMTV actor Phuwin Tangsakyuen, with the two even going along with the joke as they had switched their profile pictures on social media to photos of each other earlier this year on April Fools Day. However, the serious nature of this Tweet hints that someone at the event may have taken the joke too far, to Gemini’s dismay.

As of the moment of writing, GMMTV and AMG, who organized the event, have yet to address the situation.
