‘The Eighth Sense’ Production Respond to Plagiarism Allegations

The production team of the Korean BL, ‘The Eighth Sense’ have responded to the allegations of plagiarism regarding its logo.

‘The Eighth Sense’ is about Ji Hyun (played by rookie actor Oh Jun Taek), a small-town freshman in Seoul, who struggles to connect with others in the bustling city. Jae Won (played by actor Lim Ji Sub), who is returning from military service sparks mutual curiosity. They bond over surfing and share a kiss during a club trip. But Jae Won acts indifferent afterward. Is their connection just a fleeting or lifelong love?

The series garnered a positive response from viewers, who praised and thoroughly enjoyed the show (available internationally on Rakuten Viki and local streaming sites in Korea). However, fans have observed the identical resemblance between the series’ opening logo and the logo for K-Pop group INFINITE’s ‘The Chaser,’ which was released back in 2012.

In line with the allegations, the ‘The Eighth Sense’ production team has released a statement:

Summary of ‘The Eighth Sense’ production team Twitter thread:

1. The team outsourced the logo from DeviantArt, an overseas royalty logo website.

2. The team has filed a complaint on the said website and will try to resolve the issue directly with Woollim Entertainment (the company that still has rights to Infinite’s copyright materials).

3. Lastly, the team sincerely apologizes to the fans (Inspirits), for not double-checking.

Similarly, however, a fan tweeted and found the exact logo from the website which stated: “INFINITE – INFINITIZE era logo”.

Despite the team of ‘The Eighth Sense’ issuing a clarification and apology, fans continue to demand the discontinuation of upcoming merchandise featuring the logo.
