Park Hyeongseop Wins The Internet After Answering Homophobic Question On Filming BL ‘Please Teach Me’

Homophobia from South Korean journalists? Color us surprised.

On March 12, Tuesday, at the press conference for ‘Top Reels’ launch and the unveiling of the trailer for their upcoming BL series ‘Please Teach Me,’ lead actor Park Hyeongseop faced some questions that fans deem to be “homophobic.”

A reporter started his question by saying that since his drama is a BL genre, it must have been “a new challenge” for the actor and proceeded to ask about the challenges that Park faced in filming as well as the bragging points about it.

Park answered rather thoughtfully and said, “Since our drama is the same as any romance drama, I did not feel any burden or hardship when filming.”

He added that the charming point of their series is that since they are all new actors, they were able to grow together. He then bashfully quipped that compared to other dramas, he believes that their visuals would be better.

The reporter drew flak from fans, with one X user saying, “They need to stop asking this question because what’s different from BL to romance? They are both romance dramas, I don’t get why they would think he would feel burdened to act in a BL especially since it’s his second BL role, like at least be knowledgeable about the person you’re interviewing.”

Park’s acting credits include the 2023 Korean BL hit, Jun and Jun.

Another user said, “It’s 2024, and stupid journalists still using the word ‘challenge’ for LGBT roles.”

Many fans also praised Park for his sensitive and graceful answer, with one commenting, “He answered that beautifully. Whether it’s BL, GL… it’s still love. When reporters ask about ‘challenges’ they really mean, ‘Was it hard to play gay?’ This is harmful to our community because it puts us in a light other than human. Good job, Hyeongseop.”
