Lee Jonghyuk talks about ‘Our Dating Sim’, his co-star Lee Seunggyu, and how grateful he is to fans.
In an interview with Korean news source Sports W, Lee Seunggyu answered questions about his recently-concluded drama, ‘Our Dating Sim’.
Lee Jonghyuk and Lee Seunggyu’s Chemistry
Unbeknownst to many, during the casting, Lee Jonghyuk was actually paired with three different people. But when he was paired with Lee Seunggyu, their chemistry was just incredible. To this topic, Lee Jonghyuk says, “Our Seunggyu has a lot of cuteness. He’s such a very transparent kid. One can just see through his thoughts and even his words. I don’t have a younger brother, but he’s someone that is like my real younger brother because he’s just so cute. He keeps saying he’s a ‘chic guy’ or a ‘cool guy’ but I always just dote on him. When you give him a camera, he dances by himself and plays a lot, too. For me, if you have a lot of cuteness, you’re like a (golden) retriever, but he’s also like a beagle, which is saying something because he’s not even that small (laughs).”
When it comes to when Lee Jonghyuk became comfortable filming as his ‘Our Dating Sim’ character, Lee Wan, he says, “It was the scene when Wan was eating lunch alone at a restaurant and Gi Tae saw him by chance. Gi Tae joked around so much back then that from then on (Seunggyu) and I became comfortable with each other. Our chemistry just matched with each other that it looked really natural on screen.”
First Kiss = Closeness
But it was really during their first kiss scene that they became really close to each other. “It wasn’t even our first kiss in the drama, but (at that time) I thought it would be fun to say ‘cut’ and feel awkward with each other. I did feel greedy then so I kept discussing it (with him/everyone). I think we put a lot of effort (at that scene) to the point that even the director praised us that our chemistry is getting better. Even the producer that I have only seen for the first time that day said that the scene came out pretty. The director really liked it, most of all. They didn’t really say anything at first, but they kept smiling and telling us which angles to try. We didn’t even manage to monitor the outcome. We didn’t really match each other when it comes to the kissing scene, but more than that, we just followed our instincts. I just trusted everyone’s reactions.”

‘Our Dating Sim’ Season 2?
Because of the success of ‘Our Dating Sim’, a lot of fans are asking if they will be having a season 2. To this, Lee Jonghyuk answers, “There isn’t really a confirmed season two. But if we ever have one, I would wish that I can show a different side of Lee Wan. Because by this time, he is already Gi Tae’s (boyfriend), it’s more of showing possessiveness (towards his partner). For example, if Gi Tae was introduced to someone else like Wan was, he would probably act more possessively. It’s because Gi Tae is Wan’s, and he’ll be in the back assessing his next steps, but honestly, Wan might just talk about it immediately (with Gi Tae).”
Lee Jonghyuk also acknowledged that the fans he made through the drama were really passionate about the drama and himself, too. He said, “Fans gave such a tremendous reaction to ‘Our Dating Sim’. I can’t even believe that I have such a passionate fan base. They even did an event, and Seunggyu even visited a couple of times. I thought about going there, too, but I wanted to be more careful. Even so, when I went to the event place, they were playing our OST, and I actually cried then. Words couldn’t come out of me, so I just gave my autograph to them. They even planned out an event like that, yet I couldn’t give anything more, so I did an event with the company to give away my photos.
What to Look Forward to
Although season 2 of ‘Our Dating Sim’ is still not confirmed, fans can look forward to a drama commentary from the two leads. Lee Jonghyuk says, “We filmed for a short time but we have a lot of things to talk about. The preparation process (for the drama) was long, too. There are a lot of things to talk about per scene.”
