No3 Pictures Clarifies ‘ ‘I, a Gangster, Became a High Schooler’ Will Proceed As Scheduled After Being Reportedly Canceled

On August 27th, Newsis reportedly ‘I, a Gangster, Became a High Schooler’ drama adaptation was canceled due to lack of funds and changes in the production.

However, on the same day, DongA reported that the news was groundless as No3 Pictures (the same production company as Korean BL ‘Unintentional Love Story’) clarified that there were no changes in the production, and it was proceeding as planned. Furthermore, the series is still slated to be released within the year through an OTT platform both domestically and overseas.

Meanwhile, it was also reported a couple of months ago that they were removing the BL element from the upcoming adaptation, which is based on Ho Rol’s BL web novel of the same name. Actors Yoon Chan Young (All of Us are Dead), Bong Jae Hyun, and Lee Seo Jin are confirmed to take the lead roles in the film, which is under the direction of Lee Sung Taek and screenwriter Jung Da Hee.

Kim Deuk-Pal (Lee Seo-Jin) is a 47-year-old gangster, and he is the #2 guy in his gang. He doesn’t have an educational background due to his poor parents, but he has a dream of attending a university. He has been studying to achieve his dream, but it’s not easy. One day, Kim Deuk-Pal sees a young man, Song Yi-Heon (Yoon Chan-Young), about to kill himself. At that time, Kim Deuk-Pal’s spirit possessed the body of the suicidal 19-year-old high school student. Kim Deuk-Pal soon learns that Song Yi-Heon is a victim of bullying, which has caused him to want to take his own life. Now, Kim Deuk-Pal, in the body of Song Yi-Heon, takes on the bullies to punish them and becomes friends with classmate Choi Se-Kyung (Bong Jae-Hyun). Choi Se-Kyung is a model student who appears to be in a perfect situation, but he suffers from domestic violence at home by his father.
